The National Black Arts Festival (NBAF) is in full swing in Atlanta, GA now through July 15th. Here is quick rundown of a few of the signature events that you don’t want to miss:
Thursday, July 12 – 6pm – Slavery by Another Name: Dialogue
Slavery By Another Name: Dialogue takes a closer look at the subject matter of Douglas A. Blackmon’s Pulitzer-Prize-winning book Slavery by Another Name: The Re-Enslavement of Black Americans from the Civil War to World War II. The dialogue features author Douglas Blackmon, filmmaker Sam Pollard, visual artist Robert Claiborne Morris and is moderated by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Cynthia Tucker. Friday, July 13 – Sunday, July 15 – NBAF@Centennial Olympic Park
Get yo jam on with three fun-filled nights of music in Atlanta’s historic Centennial Olympic Park. This FREE musical extravaganza will feature the vocal styling of Lela James, Kindred Family Soul, Anthony David, Algebra, Alex Lattimore and the legendary Peabo Bryson. Saturday, July 14 – 7pm – A Ruby Evening: Honoring the Legendary Ruby Dee
The 2012 Gala will celebrate the legendary actress Ruby Dee. Guests will enjoy a gala cocktail reception before the main event, featuring film clips from Ruby Dee’s career and other special effects. The auction will be a special feature and guests will be treated to live music from the silver screen and Broadway. Click here for additional ticket and event information.
