Singer-songwriter Alicia Keys took time out of her hectic schedule to focus on the importance of giving back.  Armed with a philanthropic spirit and a desire to effect change, she recently talked about her charity Keep A Child Alive at the Social Innovation Summit in New York City.

Keep A Child Alive is an organization dedicated to providing lifesaving treatment, support and love to individuals living with AIDS in Africa.

Keys was one of the first celebrities to lend her name and support to organization when it was founded in 2003. She talked to the audience at the Summit about her first trip to Africa and meeting victims of the HIV-AIDS pandemic.

“They were five years younger than me and they had dealt with the most difficult, horrible circumstances and situations, and watched their parents just die and could do nothing about it because there was no way on Earth to access medicine.”
