Move over Dreamgirls! Watch out Jersey Boys! There is a new musical on the horizon based on the tumultuous career of two music legends.
Soul Sister is a new production inspired by the music, life and times of Ike and Tina Turner and is is set to hit London’s West End this August 23. The musical stars Emi Wokoma as the “Queen of Rock and Roll” Tina Turner and Chris Tummings as her former husband and singing partner Ike Turner.
According to Playbill.com, Soul Sister “follows the highs and lows, the passion and heartbreak of Ike and Tina Turner as their careers blossomed and their marriage crumbles.” The show will feature music from their career as a duo as well as some of Tina’s solo hits including “What’s Love Got to Do with It” and “Private Dancer.”
London’s West End has been quite the hotbed for new musicals including the Tony Award-winning Sister Act: the Musical, Ghost: The Musical and the highly anticipated The Bodyguard: The Musical.
Will Soul Sister be the next big UK hit to storm the Great White Way? Only time will tell!
