Mr. Belafonte was born, Harold George Bellanfanti Jr., on March 1, 1927 and is an American singer, songwriter, actor and social activist.
Throughout his career, spanning over fifty years, he is known as an advocate for civil rights and his commitment to humanitarian causes!
Mr. Belafonte has received numerous awards/honors that include: First African-American to win an Emmy in 1959 for his television special, Tonight with Harry Belafonte and was a Kennedy Center Honoree in 1989. He is also noted as the organizer of the multi-artist recording “We Are the World” which won the 1985 Grammy award for record of the year and raised millions of dollars for emergency assistance in Africa.
His efforts are countless and his passion for the rights of people are endless!
