The family of Whitney Houston has decided to hold a private, invitation only funeral on Saturday at 1pm in Newark, NJ.

Carolyn Whigham, owner of Whigham Funeral home stated on Tuesday that the Houston family opted for a smaller, more intimate service at the Newark New Hope Baptist Church versus a large public memorial at the Prudential Center. Apparently, this is where Houston’s talents were first recognized as a child. Pastor Marvin WInans, of the Winan’s Gospel singing clan will give the eulogy.

Carolyn Whigham, further indicated that this scaled down funeral is a reflection of the family’s need to keep the service more personal.

“They have shared her for 30 some years with the city, with the state, with the world. This is their time now for their farewell. “
