Jay Z is totally revolutionizing the way musical artists are releasing their content one song at a time. Yesterday, the hip-hop mogul premiered the video to his hit single, “Holy Grail” on Facebook, sending the social media maverick through the stratosphere. The exclusive premiere was reportedly done 24-hours before the video was placed on YouTube, which is where most of today’s music videos are released. According to Facebook’s Nick Grudin, the new platform gave Jigga direct access to a global audience.
“It’s something that only Facebook, I think, can really deliver in this way, given the scale of the audiences musicians have and the global nature of those audiences and the social dynamics of what happens when they engage on Facebook.”
“Holy Grail” is the second single from Jay’s Magna Carta Holy Grail album and was released just weeks after his first single “Picasso Baby,” which debuted on HBO. Unlike the radio version of the song, “Holy Grail” the video is slightly rearranged and opens with Jay Z rapping and then Timberlake on vocals. The video was also directed by Anthony Mandler, who has worked with Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Beyoncé.
