‘BET Awards’ announces first round of presenters + performers

Bruno Mars, Future, Migos, Trey Songz and Tamar Braxton are just a few of the big named stars set to perform at this year’s “BET Awards.” The show airs live on Sunday, June 25 at 8 p.m. EST from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, CA.  According to the press release, the above mentioned names are just the first round of performers and more acts are to be announced in the coming weeks.

The evening will also feature a number of television, film, sports, comedy and music stars who will serve as presenters including “black-ish” star Yara Shahidi, Cardi B, Issa Rae, Jamie Foxx, La La Anthony, the cast of Universal Pictures’ “Girls Trip” (Regina Hall, Tiffany HaddishJada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah), Trevor Noah, Robin Thede, Cari Champion and “All Eyez on Me” star—Demetrius Shipp Jr.

Previously announced nominees this year include Mars and Migos plus Beyoncé, Chance the Rapper and many more. This year’s show is also hosted by comedienne and actress Leslie Jones.

Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, Chris Brown and more to appear on ‘The BET Life Of…’ (VIDEO)

What do Janet Jackson, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Trey Songz and Beyoncé all have in common? Outside of being multi-talented pop and R&B music stars, each one is the subject of a new BET series titled, “The BET Life Of…”

According to S&A, the new one-hour series will look back at each artist’s most memorable moments on the network including exclusive on-air interviews and televised performances. The series will also feature commentary from industry professionals and leaders, former BET hosts and the people who worked behind-the-scenes.

BET President of Programming, Stephen G. Hill says, “BET is so fortunate to have been there since the beginning with these amazing artists. It’s been fun looking back at the early years of these superstars; many of whom have their very first look on BET. Through this show you’ll get nostalgic, but also realize the work, dedication and growth to today of your favorite performers.”

‘BET Honors’ announces All-Star Performers + 2015 Mega Specials Calendar

BET Networks announced Thursday that performers, Charlie Wilson, Jill Scott, K. Michelle, Mary J. Blige, Ne-Yo, Patti LaBelle and Trey Songz will pay tribute to this year’s honorees at “The BET Honors” 2015. The show will be taped at the historic Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. tomorrow (Saturday, January 24) and will premiere on Monday, February 23 at 9:00 pm during Black History Month.

Celebrating the outstanding achievements of extraordinary leaders, “The BET Honors” recognizes trailblazers in art, music, theater, education, technology and business. This year’s recipients include:  Phylicia Rashad (Theatrical Arts Award); Usher Raymond (Musical Arts Award); Kanye West (Visionary Award); John W. Thompson (Technology and Business Award) and Dr. Johnnetta Betsch Cole (Education Award).  Joining the star-studded lineup includes presenters, Anthony Anderson, Bobby Brown, Diahann Carroll and Glynn Turman.  Television personality, actor and comedian, Wayne Brady returns as host of the show for the second year.

R&B vocalist Trey Songz has released another “panty dropper” with the new single, “Slow Motion.” This is his first track of 2015 and it’s sure to be a hit amongst his female fan base. In addition to the new single, Songz is currently prepping to hit the road with Chris Brown and Tyga for their “Between the Sheets “ tour which kicks off January 28 in Hampton, VA. The show makes stops in Brooklyn, Houston, Washington D.C., Detroit, Atlanta, Philadelphia and ends on March 8 in Inglewood, CA. Check out the song below and tell us what you think.

Trey Songz to Celebrate Birthday with ’30/30 Acts of Kindness’

Trey Songz is celebrating the big 3-0 by committing to 30 acts of random kindness for the entire month of November. Reportedly, the Grammy-nominated singer has set up a special charity program titled “30/30 Acts of Kindness” to kick off the 4th annual ‘Angels with Heart’ month. He is also asking that all of his fan participate by donating their time to some form of community service.

“For this year’s Angels with Heart Month I really wanted to reflect on the many wonderful blessings and acts of kindness that have come my way throughout my 30 years,” said Songz. “At this point I believe the greatest gift I could receive from anyone is the gift of giving and being able to give. From a welfare baby raised by a single teen mom to where I am today is almost unimaginable, so to celebrate this milestone birthday I would like to simply pay it forward.”

Suggested acts include donating clothes to a homeless shelter, volunteering at a senior facility, and sending packages to troops. Songz’ goal is to do something different everyday until his birthday on November 28.

CENTRIC recently announced a lineup of hit-making performers and presenters for Soul Train Awards 2014. Leading the charge for his first Soul Train Awards performance is the multi-talented Grammy award-winner, Chris Brown, who leads the show with seven nominations. In addition, the reunion we’ve all been waiting for is going down as the platinum selling group Jodeci is scheduled to sing a medley of hits before ending with a sneak peek of their new single, “Nobody Wins.”

Chart-topping international fan favorites Aloe Blacc and Nico & Vinz will keep the audience entertained with upbeat performances of their catchy sing-a-long hits. Jeremih, Lisa Stansfield, Kem and Liv Warfield round out the list of rhythm and soul singers set to captivate viewers during this year’s show.

Presenters Trey Songz, Boris Kodjoe, Laila Ali and Wolf Blitzer will join host Wendy Williams on stage at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on November 7, 2014. The show airs on CENTRIC and BET Networks on November 30, 2014 at 8PM ET/PT.

“This slate of performances is another example that Soul Train Awards 2014 is the only place where soul music lovers can find the diverse combination of current chart-topping performers and reunions from their favorite hit-making groups,” said Paxton Baker, General Manager and Executive Vice President, CENTRIC. “We are pulling out all the stops this year and are thrilled to have Chris Brown and Jodeci lead the big surprises we have in store.”

This year’s theme will celebrate the history of dance, from the classic Soul Train line and the electric slide, to the Dougie and this year’s breakout, the Nae Nae. To bring the dance theme to life, Soul Train Awards 2014 has brought in award-winning chorographer Fatima Robinson and her 12 seasoned dancers to lead the show. Additionally, Grammy Award-winning producers 1500 or Nothin’ are back again as music directors for the show and will keep the party rolling throughout the night.

Soul Train Awards 2014 airs Nov. 30 at 8PM on CENTRIC.

BET has added more chart topping names to the already stellar lineup of performances at this year’s BET Awards including Grammy-nominated rapper Nicki Minaj, Grammy winner John Legend, American singer-songwriter Jhene Aiko and American hip-hop singer August Alsina.  106 & Park  hosts Bow Wow and Keshia Chante along with actor Larenz Tate will also present at the awards show.

In addition, K. Michelle and Mack Wilds will join Mary J. Blige, Trey Songz, and Jennifer Hudson at STAPLES Center on Sunday, June 29, 2014

This year is also the first time international acts have performed as part of the BET Experience at L.A. LIVE presented by Coca-Cola® since the introduction of international BET Award categories, ‘Best International Act: Africa’ and ‘Best International Act: UK’ in 2010.

South African Afro-pop duo Mafikizolo, Ghanaian hip hop artist Sarkodie and Nigerian singer-songwriter Tiwa Savage will take the stage along with British hip hop duo Krept & Konan and acclaimed rapper MC Ghetts. Nigerian hip hop superstar Ice Prince, who won the 2013 BET Award for ‘Best International Act: Africa’, will also perform and present the award for the same category to this year’s winner.

As previously reported, BET’s Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Motown legend, Lionel Richie and will be hosted by none other than award winning comedian Chris Rock.

The BET Awards 2014  will air live on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 8pm ET on BET from the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles, CA.


Pharrell Williams, J-Hud, Usher, Lil Wayne, Drake, & more to perform at BET Awards

Some of the biggest names in entertainment will take the stage at the “BET Awards” 2014 on Sunday, June 29, 2014.  Pharrell Williams, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Drake, Lil Wayne, and Trey Songz are among the names set to perform at this year’s ceremony.  Comedy titans Kevin Hart and Tracy Morgan are also set to appear with music legend, Lionel Richie receiving this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

As previously reportedBeyoncéJay-Z and Drake lead this year’s nominations with 5 nods a piece while Pharrell Williams and R&B newbie August Alsina both have 4 nods.

Emmy and Grammy® Award winning comedian Chris Rock will serve as this year’s host.

Trey Songz headlines TV One’s Black Music Month Programming

Fans of R&B heartthrob Trey Songz will get a chance to be up close and personal with the singer/actor as part of TV One’s Black Music Month programming. The network is teaming up once again with HelloBeautiful for Interludes Live  featuring Songz. The one-hour special is an intimate interview series showcasing in-person performances by Songz from Greystone Manor in Los Angeles.  Previously profiled artists include John Legend, Alicia Keys and most recently Toni Braxton & Babyface.

“The series offers private, unscripted conversations about each artist’s life, career and relationships as well as the most meaningful ‘interludes’ of his or her life” and is hosted by Interactive One’s Chief Content Officer, Smokey D. Fontaine.

Other programming highlights include Michael Jacksons: 30th Anniversary Celebration,  Diana Ross films: Lady Sings the Blues  & Mahogany, The Temptations, Unsung, R&B Divas Atlanta  and Aretha: Frankly Speaking, a retrospective of the professional and personal life of the most celebrated singer of all time, Aretha Franklin.

The 35th Annual UNCF An Evening of Stars was taped last night in Atlanta’s Boisfeuillet Jones Civic Center. The star-studded event is the organization’s biggest fundraiser and collects millions of dollars for its UNCF member Historically Black Colleges & Universities as well as UNCF scholarships and programs.  The show, which was previously held in Los Angeles, was moved to Atlanta and was hosted once again by comedic actor Anthony Anderson.

Many of entertainment’s biggest and brightest stars performed during the show including Jill Scott, Monica with the legendary Isley Brothers, YouTube sensation Spoken Reasons with Marsha Ambrosius and R&B newcomers Alice Smith, August Alsina and Sevyn Streeter.

There were also appearances by Cedric the Entertainer, Braxton Family Values  stars – Tamar, Trina and Towanda Braxton, DJ Drama, actress Demetria McKinney, actor-singer Mack Wilds, actress Salli Richardson-Whitfield and 106 & Park  host  Keshia Chanté.  Also spotted in the audience were singers Algebra and Kenny Lattimore, actor Brad James and CEO of BobbCat Films, Roger Bobb.

R&B heartthrobs Usher and Trey Songz presented scholarships on behalf of their foundations and Gospel superstar Ty Tribbett closed out the show with a “hand clapping, toe tapping” finale.

The telecast will air this Sunday, April 13 at 10 p.m. EST on BET.

BET announced yesterday that it was bringing the 2014 BET Experience back to L.A.’s STAPLES Center for three days of music and comedy concerts, June 27-29. The network is teaming up with AEG for a myriad of activities including live tapings of 106 & Park  and The Music Matters Showcase.

Kicking off Friday, June 27 are Grammy winning artists soul music giants Maxwell, Jill Scott and Marsha Ambrosius. Hip-hop titans A$AP Rocky, Rick Ross, Ty Dolla $ign join R&B bad girl K. Michelle and rap newbie August Alsina on Saturday, June 28. Closing out the weekend will be the Queen of Hip Hop Soul Mary J. Blige along with Trey Songz, Tamar Braxton and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson.

“We are proud to once again be working in partnership with BET to co-host the BET Experience at L.A. LIVE,  said Dan Beckerman, President and CEO, AEG.  “Combining the assets, the creativity and the experience of each of our brands to produce such an all-encompassing event as the BET Experience at L.A. The Atlanta premiere of the new romantic comedy Baggage Claim was held on Monday night at Regal Atlantic Station. The private screening was presented in part by Liquid Soul Media and featured a special appearance by the film’s producer David E. Talbert and his wife Lyn along with lead actor, Derek Luke.

The evening was also co-hosted by The Rickey Smiley Morning Show’s Ebony Steele.

Baggage Claim  is a film adaptation of Talbert’s best-selling 2003 novel of the same name.  In the film, Paula Patton plays flight attendant Montana Monroe (who at 35 is the only woman in her family not married).  Her sister (Lauren London) is engaged, so Montana and her fellow flight attendants (Jill Scott and Adam Brody) become determined to put a ‘claim check’ on a husband in 30 days or 30,000 miles.

The movie also features a who’s who cast of actors, comedians and entertainers including Trey Songz, Taye Diggs, Terrence J, Djimon Hounsou, Boris Kodjoe, Tia Mowry, Lala Anthony, Jenifer Lewis, Rickey Smiley, Christina Milian, Nephew Tommy and Affion Crockett.

After the screening, attendees were treated to a brief Q&A with the Talberts and Luke followed by a VIP reception at STRIP Restaurant.

Paula Patton is looking for love in new ‘Baggage Claim’ trailer

Just days after releasing the official poster for David E. Talbert’s new rom-com Baggage Claim, Fox Searchlight has now released the first trailer for the film.

As previously stated, Baggage Claim  stars Paula Patton as a flight attendant that must find a husband within thirty days and thirty thousand miles. The all-star cast includes Paula Patton, Taye Diggs, Derek Luke, Trey Songz, Jill Scott, J Cole, Djimon Hounsou, Adam Brody, Boris Kodjoe, Tia Mowry, Lala Anthony and Jenifer Lewis as…you guessed it, Paula Patton’s mama.
