WATCH Teaser for Michel’le biopic ‘Surviving Compton’ (VIDEO)

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Check out the newest teaser for the upcoming biopic about R&B recording artist Michel’le. The Lifetime Original Movie is titled “Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel’le” and debuts on Saturday, October 15 at 8PM EST.

Rhyon Nicole Brown stars as the First Lady of Ruthless Records—Michel’le—alongside newcomer Curtis Hamilton as Dr. Dre and R. Marcos Taylor, who reprises his role as Suge Knight after having starred as the music executive in last year’s feature film, “Straight Outta Compton.” Jamie Kennedy also stars as music manager Jerry Heller.

Discovered at a young age, the shy, squeaky-voiced Michel’le (Brown) was plucked straight from South Central, Los Angeles and catapulted into the spotlight while riding N.W.A.’s rocket ride of early success. Surrounded by industry visionaries from Eazy-E to Tupac Shakur, Michel’le quickly climbed the charts; but, her musical successes were soon overshadowed by betrayal and corruption. A nearly decade-long romance with the infamous Dr. Dre (Hamilton) pushed her into a life tarnished by alcohol, drugs and violence until her savior came in the unlikely form of Suge Knight (Taylor), co-founder of Death Row Records and Dre’s business partner. Friendship would turn into a courtly romance, but the union Michel’le thought they had did not end happily-ever-after. With children from both men and a career to protect, Michel’le’s voice became silenced by Compton’s biggest power players. Until now.

“Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel’le” is produced for Lifetime by Sony Pictures Television and Thinkfactory Media.

Santana as Suge Knight, Annie Ilonzeh as Kidada Jones, Jamal Woodard as Biggie Smalls, Grace Gibson as Faith Evans and Harold House Moore as Dr. Dre. There will also be appearances by Keith Robinson, Cory Hardrict and Hill Harper.

According to the film’s IMDB page, “All Eyez on Me” centers on the life of the charismatic yet controversial artist—Tupac Shakur. The rapper, poet, actor and political activist, shot to fame with “2Pacalypse Now,” lauded for its seminal underground vibe and still an inspiration for major artists today. Tupac’s politically charged lyrics, inspired by his parents’ activism as Black Panthers in the 60s & early 70s, condemned governmental intrusion in black communities. Tupac’s increased participation in the East Coast-West Coast Rap rivalry became well documented and avidly followed by his fans. On September 7, 1996 he was gunned down on a street corner in Las Vegas, where he died 6 days later. His murder was never solved.

“All Eyez on Me” is directed by Benny Boom and is executive produced by Afeni, who passed away in May at the age of 69.  The film opens on November 11, 2016.

Outkast’s Antwan “Big Boi” Patton hosted his highly anticipated Halloween Costume Party last night at the legendary Stankonia Studios. The “Dugeon” themed-soiree was a fundraiser for his Big Kidz Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides culturally enriched programs for inner city youth. The year-long initiative focuses on education through music, art and literature.

The VIP party was attended by a number of Patton’s celebrity friends including R&B/Soul singer, Joi and Notorious actor Jamal Woolard. The event also featured an open bar, an array of assorted desserts and live DJ.

Attendees also had a chance to win up to $500 in cash for best costume and believe me, the judges had some stiff competition. There was a variety of looks including “Suge Knight,” “Cat Woman” and Marilyn Monroe.”
