RC attends ‘R&B Divas’ Season 2 Premiere Parties

Written by | Ray Cornelius

TV One was not lying when it promised viewers a double dose of drama for the second season of R&B Divas.  The highly anticipated reality-series premiered last night with some brand new faces and some of the first season divas “doin the absolute most.”  In fact, the tension between singers Syleena Johnson and Nicci Gilbert is so real that each one hosted their own premiere party at two separate venues in Atlanta.

The first party featured Johnson and the newest divas, Angie Stone and former Xscape star, LaTocha Scott. Held at The Harlem Night’s club, all three ladies arrived in style and looked absolutely amazing together. They posed for the cameras and mingled with guests as if they were entertaining “old friends” at a house party. The show played on big screens throughout the club with popular tunes from each ‘diva’ playing in between commercial breaks.

A number of their celebrity friends were in attendance including YouTube sensation Funky Dineva, former Destiny’s Child member LaTavia Roberson, For Better or Worse stars Michael Jai White and Kent Faulcon, The Kandi Factory’s Don Vito and HGTV  star Egypt Sherrod with husband DJ Fadelf.

Meanwhile, on the other side of town was the second party that was reportedly hosted by Keke Wyatt, Nicci Gilbert and Monifah. Unfortunately, by the time I arrived to The Museum BarKeKe Wyatt was the only remaining diva.  Of course, her husband and “un-official” diva Michael Ford was there by her side.  Also spotted in the building were Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta’s Mimi Faust, DJ Traci Steele, and DJ Babey Drew along with RHOA’s Peter Thomas and former RHOA Lisa Wu.

Check out a few photos below of both parties including a few shots of yours truly:

Good News for Kevin Hart! (VIDEO)

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Kevin Hart’s faux reality series the “Real Husbands of Hollywood” has been renewed for another season.

The  popular BET comedy, which spoofs the various “Housewives” series, proved to be a ratings winner debuting to 4.1 million viewers in January. The show stars Hart along with Nick Cannon, Boris Kodjoe, Duane Martin, J.B. Smoove and Robin Thicke. Rapper Nelly and comedian Fazion Love, who made regular appearances during season one, are expected to return next season.

BET’s president of music programming and specials, Stephen Hill says, “When we launched this series in January, we knew our audience would have as much fun watching it as we had making it, and since it has been on the air, fans have voiced on social media that they want more. So this was a pretty simple decision: ‘Hey! Let’s make more!”

He also goes on to say, ““We are beyond thrilled that Kevin Hart and the stellar Husbands will be back bickering and back-biting, for another season on BET.”

In other Kevin related news, the star’s new stand-up comedy movie, titled Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain will open this summer July 4.  However, it will make its world premiere at the closing of the American Black Film Festival on June 22nd.

According to Indie Wire, the film includes clips from Hart’s 2012 10-country concert tour, where he traveled to 80 cities and generated over $32 million in ticket sales. It will also be a follow up to his last stand up film, Kevin Hart: Laugh at My Pain.

Check out the teaser below which was allegedly banned from airing on TV:

TV One renews ‘R&B Divas’ for a second season

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Variety  is reporting that TV One’s hit series “R&B Divas” will return in the spring for a second season.

The show, which averaged 426,000 homes during its first season, follows singers Faith Evans, Nicci Gilbert, Monifah, Syleena Johnson and Keke Wyatt as they work together on a compilation album. It was a huge success for the network that also airs two other celebrity-based programs Life After  and Unsung.

“‘R&B Divas’ has definitely struck a positive chord with viewers,” said Toni Judkins, executive vice president of programming and production for TV One. “Week-after-week, the series continued to build on its audience and we’re thrilled to provide another season and a new franchise of a dynamic program that is clearly resonating with audiences.”

Also look for “R&B Divas: LA” to premiere in the third quarter. Like Atlanta, this spin-off will feature five Los Angeles-based R&B singers. As mentioned last December, casting is currently underway. However, no one has been confirmed.

Are you looking to a second season of “R&B Divas?”

RC Update: R&B Divas

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Last week RC posted a story regarding the internet rumors circulating about Nicci Gilbert and Faith Evans not returning for season two of TV One’s R&B Divas. Although both ladies are co-executive producers, they were allegedly being replaced by Sunshine Anderson and Angie Stone.

Well, according to, all five ‘original’ divas were scheduled to participate in Sheryl Lee Ralph’s Divas Simply Singing  this past weekend.  Reportedly, a source close to the event said the ladies were there shooting scenes for the first episode of season two. Both Faith and Syleena would sing their respective singles while the remaining ladies perform to cover songs.

At the time of the story, neither Anderson nor Stone were scheduled to appear at Divas.

So, where does this leave us?  For now, it appears that fans will enjoy Nicci, Syleena, Faith, Monifah and Keke for one more season.

In the meantime, casting is underway for an LA spin-off of the show. No word yet as to who may be joining but I am sure it will be just as entertaining as the Atlanta franchise has been this first season.

Stay close to RC as this story continues to develop.
