Watch Trailer for ‘Uncorked’ with Mamoudou Athie, Courtney B. Vance, and Niecy Nash (VIDEO)

Netflix has released the official trailer for it’s newest dramedy Uncorked starring Mamoudou Athie, Courtney B. Vance and Niecy Nash. It premieres on March 27.

Fueled by his love for wine, Elijah (Athie) enrolls in a course to become a master sommelier, an elite designation given only to a handful who are able to pass its notoriously difficult exam. It’s a dream that upends the expectations of his father, Louis (Vance), who insists Elijah take over the popular Memphis BBQ joint that’s been passed down from father to son since its inception. Elijah struggles with the demands of school and a new relationship, while Louis wrestles with the feelings of his son rejecting the family business until a tragedy forces both of them to slow things down.

Uncorked is written and directed by Prentice Penny, executive producer, director and writer of HBO’s Insecure.

Watch a Sneak Peek of Netflix’s ‘Queen Sono’ (VIDEO)

Netflix has released a teaser trailer and first look images for its first original African series Queen Sono starring Pearl Thusi. It premieres on February 28, 2020.

After the assassination of her mother, Queen Sono grows up to become a kick- ass yet unconventional spy devoted to protecting the people of Africa. During a dangerous field assignment, Queen unknowingly uncovers shocking details about her mother’s death, sparking her own truth-finding mission.

The series also features Vuyo Dabula as Shandu, an ex-spy who has taken a different path. Sechaba Morojele as Dr Sid, director of the SOG, with Chi MhendeLoyiso Madinga, and Rob Van Vuuren, playing agents on his team.

Kate Liquorish plays Ekaterina, heiress of an oligarch family with ulterior motives. Khathu Ramabulana plays Queen’s childhood friend, William, now in a relationship with Enhle Maphumulo’s Nova. Abigail Kubekha plays Mazet, Queen’s beloved Gogo (grandmother), who has always supported Queen – no matter the trouble she gets herself into. Rounding out the talented supporting cast are Connie ChiumeOtto Nobela and James Ngcobo.

Watch Trailer for Netflix’s ‘American Son’ (VIDEO)

Netflix has released the trailer for its highly anticipated new film American Son starring Kerry Washington, Steven Pasquale, Jeremy Jordan and Eugene Lee.

American Son is based on the Broadway play of the same name and features Washington as Kendra Ellis-Conner, the mother of a missing teenage boy, who is struggling to put the pieces together in a South Florida police station. Pasquale, Jordan and Lee reprise their roles in this televised adaptation which represents four distinct viewpoints, while also navigating the unique dynamic of an interracial couple trying to raise a mixed-race son.

American Son is directed by Tony Award winner and Atlanta own Kenny Leon. Washington and Pilar Savon serve as executive producers under Washington’s banner Simpson Street.  Jeffrey Richards and Rebecca Gold also serve as executive producers.

American Son was written by Christopher Demos-Brown.

Romany Malco + Sonequa Martin-Green star in ‘Holiday Rush’

Netflix has released a new first look image from one of its upcoming holiday films, Holiday Rush. It debuts on November 28.

Popular New York radio DJ Rush Williams (Romany Malco) has been spoiling his four children since they lost their mom. Unfortunately, the kids share their pricey Christmas lists right when he loses his job. To keep Rush on the air, his producer Roxy Richardson (Sonequa Martin-Green) and his Aunt Jo (Darlene Love) plan to help him buy another station — if the Williams family can downsize fast and embrace a simpler life. In this heartwarming film, a loving father reconnects with his children and opens his heart to love when they all learn that true joy comes from not what you have but who you have around you.

Holiday Rush also stars Tamala Jones, Deon Cole, LaLa Anthony, Roscoe Orman and Amarr M. Wooten.

‘Dear White People’ renewed for 4th + Final Season (VIDEO)

Netflix is announcing that it’s hit series Dear White People has been renewed for a fourth and final season. According to the press release, Vol. 4 of the popular series will consist of ten new episodes, with creator Justin Simien returning as co-showrunner, writer and executive producer, alongside co-showrunner and executive producer Yvette Lee Bowser

“I’m so grateful my little indie-that-could has made it to four seasons at Netflix! This show, along with the many talented storytellers it has brought into my orbit, has changed my life and I can’t wait to create a celebratory final volume befitting such a transformative experience,” said Simien in a statement.

Set to return for the comedy’s final season are series stars Logan Browning, Brandon P. Bell, Antoinette Robertson, DeRon Horton, John Patrick Amedori, Ashley Blaine Featherson and Marque Richardson, among others.

Dear White People is produced by Lionsgate Television for Netflix.

Christina Milian stars in Netflix’s ‘Falling Inn Love’ (VIDEO + PHOTOS)

Christina Milian and Adam Demos have found love and much more in Netflix’s new romantic comedy Falling Inn Love. It premieres on Thursday August 29.

Gabriela Diaz’s (Milian) San Francisco design firm folds the week of her break-up. Inspired by a potent concoction of wine and Wi-Fi, she successfully enters a contest to “Win an Inn” overlooking New Zealand’s countryside. Thousands of airline miles later, she discovers The Bellbird Valley Farm boasts a crumbling facade, floorboard-treading goat, and meddling neighbor who covets the space. Eager to renovate and sell the property fast, she partners with Jake Taylor (Demos), the Kiwi contractor and volunteer firefighter observing much of her city-girl culture shock. Once the final fixtures are hung, she’s hesitant to leave him, the inn, and the inviting community that nurtured her creative side.

Fallin Inn Love also stars Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, Anna Jullienne, Claire Chitham, Blair Strang, Jonathan Martin, William Walker, Daniel Watterson and Simone Walker.

UPDATE: Tiffany Haddish, Blair Underwood and more added to ‘Madam C.J. Walker’ Netflix Series

Octavia Spencer has added more star power to her upcoming Netflix series based on the life of Black millionaires Sarah Breedlove better known as Madam C.J. Walker. The project will now feature Tiffany Haddish, Blair Underwood, Carmen Ejogo, Garrett Morris and Kevin Carroll.

The four-part limited series is being described as “the untold, culturally important, and highly relevant story of black hair care pioneer and mogul Madam CJ Walker and how she overcame hostile turn-of-the-century America, epic rivalries, tumultuous marriages and family challenges to become America’s first black, self-made female millionaire.” It is inspired by the book, On Her Own Ground by A’Lelia Bundles, Walker’s great-great-granddaughter.

According to S&A, Haddish will star as “Lelia,” who is based on Walker’s daughter A’Lelia Walker. Underwood will star as “Charles James Walker,” who is based on Madam C.J.’s third husband Charles Joseph Walker. Morris will star as “Cleophus,” who is based on Walker’s father Owen Breedlove and Carroll will play “Ransom,” a pullman porter whose degrees in law and patents from Columbia University serves him well as a legal advisor to Walker. Ejogo will star as “Addie” and is based on Walker’s real life rival Annie Malone, who accused Walker of stealing her original formula for hair straightening and strengthening.

Janine Sherman Barrois and Elle Johnson are the showrunners, writers and executive producers for the series. Kasi Lemmons will direct and executive produce the pilot. The project is also being produced through LeBron James‘ Springhill Entertainment and ZeroGravity in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Check out the trailer for Marlon Wayans hilarious new Netflix film Sextuplets. It debuts on Friday August 16.

According to S&A, Sextuplets tells the story of Alan (Wayans), a man embarking on a personal journey to meet his birth mother before the arrival of his first child. When Alan meets his brother, Russell, he discovers that he was born a sextuplet and decides to seek out his four other siblings (all played by Wayans). Together, the two brothers set out on a road trip to track down the rest of the family that they’ve never known, and Alan quickly realizes he may have gotten more than he bargained for.

Sextuplets also stars Wayans Marlon co-star Bresha Webb. It was written by Wayans along with Rick Alvarez and Mike Glock.

Newlywed Jennifer (Brenda Song) is brutally attacked at a dark rest stop. While healing from her injuries, she can’t recall anything from her past, including the ordeal. Her husband, Russell (Mike Vogel), is just thankful she’s alive and eager to get her home. As he reintroduces her to their secluded mountain estate, Detective Page (Dennis Haysbert) pursues Jennifer’s assailant — his own daughter went missing and was never found. The same fate now awaits Jennifer, unless someone realizes that her loving caretaker is actually her captor. 

Secret Obsession also stars Ashley Scott, Paul Sloan and Daniel Booko.

Anthony Mackie, Teyonah Parris and Frank Grillo star in Netflix’s ‘Point Blank’

Anthony Mackie is teaming up with Frank Grillo in the new Netflix action thriller Point Blank.

When his pregnant wife is kidnapped and held as collateral, Paul, an ER nurse (Mackie), must team with the badly injured career criminal and murder suspect (Grillo) under his charge in order to save the lives of his wife (Teyonah Parris) and unborn child. Pitted against rival gangs and a deadly ring of corrupt cops, the unlikely duo find a way to survive together in the fight of their lives.

Point Blank premieres on July 12.

‘Queen Sono’ is coming to Netflix in 2020

Production is currently underway for Netflix’s first original African series – Queen Sono. The action-packed spy thriller is slated for a 2020 release and features Pearl Thusi in the title role.

The six-part series is being produced by Diprente, the Johannesburg-based production company behind Catching Feelings and International Emmy nominated Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola. Showrunner and Director Kagiso Lediga (named as one of Fast Company’s Most Creative People 2019) will be joined by Director Tebogo Malope (Cannes Lions and SAFTA award winner), with both directing three episodes each. The team will be led by Executive Producer Tamsin Andersson.

Check out a sneak peek of OWN’s When They See Us Live. The event airs this Wednesday June 12 at 10 p.m. EST following the season premiere of Ava DuVernay‘s Queen Sugar.

When They See Us Live was taped Sunday evening in front of a live audience during the Netflix FYSEE space and featured an intimate conversation between Winfrey and the series’ actors Niecy Nash, Jharrel Jerome, Michael K. Williams, Joshua Jackson, Asante Blackk, Caleel Harris, Ethan Herisse, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Freddy Miyares and Justin Cunningham. Winfrey also talked to executive producers Jane Rosenthal and Berry Welsh.

The second portion of the show features her interview with the Exonerated Five – Antron McCray, Korey Wise, Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana and Yusef Salaam.   

Based on a true story that gripped the country, When They See Us chronicles the notorious case of five teenagers of color, labeled the Central Park Five, who were convicted of a rape they did not commit.

In addition, Winfrey also sits down with DuVernay, who co-wrote and directed all four parts.
