WATCH New Trailer for ‘Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta’ Season 2 (VIDEO)

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

The heirs of Atlanta hip hop are back, on the new season of “Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta,” and testing the legacy of family and the code of the streets. Shocking secrets, betrayal and an unexpected health crisis spin their worlds out of control. But when they turn their backs on their famous family dynasties, will they pay the ultimate price or die trying?

After escaping a brutal confrontation last season, Shad Moss aka Bow Wow returns to the “A” to complete his comeback without his surrogate father and mega producer, Jermaine Dupri. On the heels of doing a So So Def tour with JD and Da Brat, a scandal between Bow and JD is exploited and battle lines are drawn.

The toxic rivalry between Lil Wayne’s daughter, Reginae Carter, and nemesis Brandon Barnes, rages on; but this season their warpath leads to dangerous threats and it’s clear it’s time to settle the score. Reginae is older and wiser, ready to move on and move out; however will she leave her pregnant mother, Toya Wright, on the lurch for a new living situation?

Brandon Barnes, the son of famed Hip Hop manager Debra Antney and brother to Hip Hop star Waka Flocka, is making moves without his mom. When Deb catches wind of what’s going on behind the scenes, Brandon may be facing a permanent disinheritance.

Zonnique Pullins, the daughter of Hip Hop power couple T.I. & Tiny, is torn when her ‘momager’ wants her to join the Xscape tour, as she tries to reach stardom on her own. Meanwhile, Zonnqiue gambles on her and Reginae’s friendship with a dangerous leap of faith. Shaniah Mauldin, daughter of Jermaine Dupri, approaches her dad about her fashion aspirations, while he pressures her to take over his empire. Unbeknownst to JD, Shaniah is about to drop a major bomb.

Ayana, DJ Hurricane’s daughter, wants to go under the knife, but she must choose between her health and her heart as she puts her life on the line. All hell breaks loose when an interview leaks and puts everyone on full blast!

In the streets of Hotlanta, no one can be trusted and stepping out of their parent’s shadows means risking everything…Tune in Thursday, January 11 at 9pm ET/PT. “Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta” is produced for WE tv by Entertainment One Television.

Did Lil Wayne desecrate the American Flag? + VIDEO

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Lil Wayne just can’t seem to catch a break these days.

The New Orleans hip-hop star is at the center of controversy once again over something he claims was a mere accident. While recently filming the new video for his single, God Bless Amerika, Wayne appears to be disrespecting the American flag that was once hanging behind him but has now fallen to the ground. Instead of picking it up, Wayne continues to perform in front of the crowd and is even seen standing and stepping all over the American symbol.

According to TMZ, a witness captured the incident on video and the scene has upset a number of American patriots who view Wayne’s actions as disrespectful and un-American. Take a look for yourself in the video below:

[youtube id=”B8P6ZuUwX5k” width=”600″ height=”350″]

The United States Flag Code says the flag should never touch the ground and it should never be stepped on. While the code is federal law, there is no legal penalty for failure to comply.

Now Lil Wayne is calling the situation an accident and says the he never intentionally meant to step on the flag or be unpatriotic. He posted a response on Twitter first and then on Facebook where he wrote:

The clip that surfaced on the Internet was a camera trick clip that revealed behind the American Flag was the Hoods of America. In the final edit of the video you will see the flag fall to reveal whats behind it but will never see it on the ground. In most people eyes including my own who were raised in that environment, the Hood is the only America they know and the only America I knew growing up. I was fortunate from my God giving talents to escape the Hood and see the other beautiful places this country has to offer but most people who are born in that environment don’t get that chance. That’s their view of their America. That was Dwayne M Carter from Hollygrove New Orleans view of America. That’s who I’m speaking for in this song.”

Tell us your thoughts about the situation. Do you think Lil Wayne’s actions were intentional or simply an accident?

T.I. scores a news deal + Snoop Lion joins Tony Bennett for anti-gun campaign

Posted by |Ray Cornelius

Self-proclaim “King of the South,” T.I. is joining forces with United Talent Agency.

According to BET, the agency will overlook all areas of the rapper’s career, except music. He will continue to be managed by Category 5 entertainment’s Brian Sher, for film and television projects.

So far, T.I. has made a successful transition from hip-hop artist to television and film star with roles in such movies as ATL, American Gangster, Takers  and most recently, Identity Theft.  He has also starred in popular television programs such as Kelsey Grammar’s drama, Boss  and in his own VH1 reality series, T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle,  which is now in its third season.

T.I. is still promoting his current CD and is gearing up for the America’s Most Wanted  summer tour with Lil Wayne and Future.

SnoopTonyBennettIn other Hip-Hop news, reincarnated rapper Snoop Lion is teaming up with jazz legend Tony Bennett and his son Danny Bennett, for the “Voices Against Violence” anti-gun Campaign.

According to HipHopWired, this is latest move Snoop Lion has done to solidify his desire to be more than just a music artist. Last month, he released the single “No Guns Allowed” with Drake and his daughter, Cori B.

Snoop Lion appears to be very excited about the new partnership and tweeted out a video last week of him and Mr. Bennett talking about their musical journeys. Mr. Bennett recalled his pivotal role in 1960’s Selma March alongside Harry Belafonte while Snoop Lion looks to use this new platform as a way to address other social issues.  Voices Against Violence  is also a partner of the Brady Campaign for the Prevention of Gun Violence.  Click here to learn more.

Lil Wayne dropped by Mountain Dew over Emmitt Till lyrics…

Posted by | Cyrena Rose

RollingStone is reporting Lil Wayne continues to face the fallout for his crude lyrical reference to the slain Civil Rights figure Emmett Till: he has now been dropped as a Mountain Dew spokesman.

The controversial verse was included in a remix of Future‘s “Karate Chop” that was leaked online in February.  Out of respect for the legacy of Emmett Till and his family . . . Epic  Records is going through great efforts to take down the unauthorized version.

Despite Wayne issuing a public apology (letter below) for comparing a sex act to Till’s death (the teen was tortured and lynched for allegedly whistling at a white woman in 1955), and L.A. Reid, the head of Epic Records, reaching out to the Till family personally, the rapper has lost his promotion deal with Mountain Dew. Mountain Dew’s parent company, PepsiCo, issued a statement yesterday saying, “We do not plan any additional work with Lil Wayne moving forward,” reports the Chicago Tribune. “His offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand.”

Unfortunately, for Lil Wayne, his apology letter (below) did not mend his verbal wound:

Dear Till Family:

As a recording artist, I have always been interested in word play. My lyrics often reference people, places and events in my music, as well as the music that I create for or alongside other artists.

It has come to my attention that lyrics from my contribution to a fellow artist’s song has deeply offended your family. As a father myself, I cannot imagine the pain that your family has had to endure. I would like to take a moment to acknowledge your hurt, as well as the letter you sent to me via your attorneys.

Moving forward, I will not use or reference Emmett Till or the Till family in my music, especially in an inappropriate manner. I fully support Epic Record’s decision to take down the unauthorized version of the song and to not include the reference in the version that went to retail. I will not be performing the lyrics that contain that reference live and have removed them from my catalogue.

I have tremendous respect for those who paved the way for the liberty and opportunities that African-Americans currently enjoy. As a business owner who employs several African-American employees and gives philanthropically to organizations that help youth to pursue their dreams my ultimate intention is to uplift rather than degrade our community.

Best,

Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.

Nearly two months removed from a week-long hospital stay in early March, Lil Wayne has reportedly returned to Los Angeles, California’s Cedars Sinai Medical Center after again experiencing seizures yesterday (April 30). TMZ.com has reported that a source close to the Cash Money Records superstar notified them of the news, and added that Wayne was cleared and released this morning (May 1).

Representatives from Cash Money and Universal Motown Records, who distribute Wayne’s music, have yet to release a statement. In the March reports, Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment President Mack Maine criticized TMZ for false reporting, as did Wayne’s America’s Most Wanted tour partner T.I.

Lauren London talks to ‘JET’ about Hollywood and motherhood

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Contrary to popular belief, actress Lauren London is just as content living a regular life as she is living one of a Hollywood starlet.  In fact, the 29-year-old-single mother and star of BET’s The Game  recently told JET  that while she adores acting, she prefers spending time with her son.

“I’m okay with living life turned down,”  she declares. “I just love acting. I love being on set. I love creating new characters. I love doing this. It’s therapy for me.”

London also says she plans to provide her son, Cameron Carter, with a normal childhood in spite of the fact that his father, Lil Wayne, is one of the most famous rapper’s on the planet.

“I’d much rather wake up with my son and make him breakfast or go to the park… it’s the little things I enjoy,”  London explains. “I’m going to try my best to provide a normal childhood for my son. I’d rather him choose the public life on his own.”

RC fans can read the rest of this story, when the Mother’s Day issue of JET  hits newsstands April 29.
