‘Two Can Play that Game: The Stage Play’ is coming to a city near you

Vivica A. Fox is hitting the road this fall in a new stage adaptation of her hit film, “Two Can Play that Game.” The tour kicks off next Friday, October 13 in Memphis, TN and travels across the country through December 3.

When it comes to matters of the heart, Shanté Smith (Vivica A. Fox) is so adept at navigating the waters of romance that her girlfriends look to her for relationship advice. But soon, Shante’s own relationship becomes the example when her boyfriend, Keith (Columbus Short), is caught red-handed stepping out with his co-worker and her archrival, Conny (Porsha Williams). However, when Shanté institutes a plan full of tricks and games to get Keith to act right, he, with the help of his friend Tony (Carl Payne), fire back with a quickness, letting Shanté know that  “Two Can Play That Game.”  The stage version is adapted by Je’Caryous Johnson and also stars Cocoa Brown, Vivian Green, RonReaco Lee, and Gary Dourdan.

“Audiences across the country will be able to relive what made this movie unforgettable with the cast we have assembled,” said Johnson. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to have this incredibly talented cast. And having Vivica’s stamp of approval and vote of confidence is truly icing on the cake.”

Je’Caryous Johnson is best known for turning novels of popular African-American authors into hit plays, including Eric Jerome Dickey‘s Friends & Lovers and Cheaters.  Johnson’s recent play, Married But Single sold out in theatres from coast to coast.

Teyonah Parris is Miki Howard in TV One’s ‘Love Under New Management’ (VIDEO)

TV One has released a trailer of its Unsung Original Movie—“Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story.” It airs on Sunday, June 12 as part of the network’s Black Music Month Celebration.

As previously reported, the project will chronicle Howard’s rise to superstardom during the 1980’s and 90’s and the numerous trials she faced to get to the top. It will highlight her romantic relationship with the late Gerald Levert, her tumultuous relationship with her mother as well as her years of spousal abuse and drug addiction.

“Survivor’s Remorse” actress Teyonah Parris will star as Howard along with Darius McCrary as Levert. Rounding out the cast is Gary Dourdan as Side Effect founder Augie Johnson, LisaRaye McCoy as music executive Sylvia Rhone, Amari Cheatom as Howard’s ex-husband Eddie Phelps and Vanessa Bell Calloway as Miki’s mother Josephine Howard.

The film was shot on location in Savannah, GA and was directed by Christine Swanson and written by Rhonda F. Baraka.

‘The Miki Howard Story’ is coming to TV One 2016 [PHOTOS]

It looks like TV One is getting in on the biopic action with a brand new project in the works on the life of Unsung R&B/Jazz diva Miki Howard.

According to S&A, The Miki Howard Story (working title) will premiere on the network during Black Music Month (June 2016) and stars Chi-Raq actress Teyonah Parris as Howard along with Darius McCrary as one of Howard’s closest friends and former lovers Gerald Levert.

The Miki Howard Story will also feature Gary Dourdan as Side Effect founder Augie Johnson, LisaRaye McCoy as music executive Sylvia Rhone, Amari Cheatom as Howard’s ex-husband Eddie Phelps and Vanessa Bell Calloway as Miki’s mother Josephine Howard.

The project is produced by Carl CraigEric Tomosunas, and Rob Robinson of Swirl Films and is directed by Christine Swanson. The script is penned by A Baby For Christmas writer Rhonda Baraka and is based on Howard’s soon-to-be-released memoirs.

Howard was one of the hottest voices on R&B radio and enjoyed a string of hits including “Imagination,” “Come Share My Love,” “Baby Me Mine,” “That’s What Love Is,”and her classic “Love Under New Management.” She also covered Aretha Franklin’sUntil You Come Back to Me” and released a hugely successful tribute album to Billie Holiday titled Miki Sings Billie. Howard even played the jazz icon in Spike Lee‘s epic motion picture Malcolm X.

Wendy Raquel Robinson, Erica Campbell & Telma Hopkins star in ‘Mysterious Ways’ (VIDEO)

RLJ Entertainment/Urban Movie Channel (UMC) have announced the upcoming release of “Mysterious Ways,” starring BET’s “The Game’s” Wendy Raquel Robinson and actors Gary Dourdan, Jerome Ro BrooksJonathan ‘Lil J’ McDaniel, Telma Hopkins and Grammy-winning gospel singer Erica Campbell.

The day a hit and run driver took the life of her little boy, Marilyn (Wendy Raquel Robinson) died inside. Not even the passing of time, the love of a good man or a job as choir director at her church could bring her peace. But a chance encounter with a mysterious homeless man, who calls himself Mozart (Gary Dourdan), will change Marilyn’s world and let her see that there are no accidents, and true healing starts with forgiveness.

BET’s ‘Being Mary Jane’ returns Feb. 2015 with loads of guest stars…

BET has announced that its #1 new original drama series Being Mary Jane  season two starring Gabrielle Union will premiere on Tuesday, February 3 from 10-11 p.m. EST. The new season will feature twelve (12) one-hour episodes that will air consecutively every Tuesday night at 10 p.m. with its season finale airing on Tuesday, April 21.

According to the BET press release, the second season of Being Mary Jane will find Mary Jane once again juggling more than she can handle. On the home front, while both of her brothers seem to be getting their lives on the right track, her mother and niece are at war, causing everyone in the family to choose sides. Mary Jane’s career at her cable network takes an interesting turn when she decides to feature more and more stories about the “Black experience.” All the while, she makes a brave decision to try every way possible to conceive a child, just as she is opening her heart to a new man.

Being Mary Jane 2015 2.jpg smallBeing Mary Jane is created and executive produced by Mara Brock Akil (creator of “Girlfriends” and “The Game;” writer of “Sparkle”); executive produced and directed by Salim Akil (director and producer of “Sparkle” and “Jumping the Broom”). Union is accompanied by veteran actors Richard Roundtree and Margaret Avery and a supporting cast that includes Lisa Vidal, Richard Brooks, Raven Goodwin, B.J. Britt, Aaron D. Spears, Latarsha Rose and Stephen Bishop.

This season also features some pretty cool guest stars including Gary Dourdan, Chris Spencer, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Christina Vidal, Kyle Massey, Thomas Q. Jones and S. Epatha Merkerson.

Gary Dourdan joins ‘Being Mary Jane’ + ‘GLEE’

TV and film star Gary Dourdan has been added to the cast of BET’s popular adult series, Being Mary Jane.

According to Indie Wire, the veteran actor will have a reoccurring role this season as Sheldon Armstrong, a former civil trial attorney who has his eyes on Mary Jane (Gabrielle Union).  A very well-known businessman, Armstrong made millions suing corrupt companies and is coming out of retirement to pursue other charitable endeavors.

Dourdan is joing newly added stars Mike Epps, who will play a married man that Mary Jane envies and Salli Richardson-Whitfield, who will appear in five episodes as one of Mary Jane’s old friends.

Dourdan has also booked a role on GLEE  and three other projects that are currently in pre-production including Guns, Guitars and a Badge,  Signs,  and Mohawk Salon: A Psycho Thriller.

FIRST LOOK at Omari Hardwick & Sharon Leal’s Psychological Thriller ‘Last Letter’ (VIDEO)

Omari Hardwick has to be the hardest working man in Hollywood. Not only is the versatile actor and poet host of TV One’s Verses and Flow,  he is also starring in 50 Cent’s new STARZ drama, Power  and he’s returning to BET along with Gabrielle Union in the adult series, Being Mary Jane.

In addition to all of that, he just completed filming the romantic holiday film, A Christmas Blessing  with Lisa Arrindale Anderson.  Now the Decatur, GA native is starring in a new suspense thriller entitled Last Letter.

According to Indie Wire, the film’s synopsis reads as follows:

Sharon Leal and Omari Hardwick head an all-star cast in this twisted, psychological thriller as newlyweds Catherine and Michael. The couple’s marriage is threatened by Michael’s disapproving mother (Lynn Whitfield) and Catherine’s own terrifying secret: a crippling sleep disorder that blurs nightmare and reality. When a terrifying incident from her past returns to haunt her, she turns to her foster brother and closest confidant, George (Gary Dourdan), who vows they will stick together… no matter what!”

The film features an all-star cast including Rocsi Diaz, Tatyana Ali, Richard T. Jones, Bill T. Cobbs, Marc Singer and Lynn Whitfield. Last Call  is produced by RLJ Entertainment/One Village and directed by Paul D. Hannah.
