Written by | Ray Cornelius

Check out images from last night’s “UNCF Atlanta Mayor’s Masked Ball” featuring R&B singer/songwriter and film star Tyrese Gibson. The annual fundraising event took place at the famed Marriott Marquis and was attended by who’s who of influencers and tastemakers.

The “UNCF Atlanta Mayor’s Masked Ball” was created over 34 years ago by former Atlanta Mayor and U.S. Ambassador Andrew Young and philanthropist Billye S. Aaron as a way to raise scholarship dollars for deserving African-American students looking to attend an HBCU (Historical Black College and University). It is also the city’s unofficial end-of-the-year party that brings together local celebrities, dignitaries, civic and elected officials.

This year’s Ball Chairs included Rodney Bullard, vice president of community affairs at Chick-fil-A, Inc. and executive director of the Chick-fil-A Foundation; Ted Blum, managing shareholder of Greenberg Traurig’s Atlanta office and chair of the firm’s Atlanta Corporate and Securities Practice and Wendy Stewart, president, Atlanta Market Bank of America.

Atlanta celebrities in attendance included hip-hop star Jeezy, TV and film star Chris Tucker, Broadway legend and iconic recording artist Stephanie Mills, the cast of Bravo’s “Married to Medicine” – Miss Quad WebbLunceford, Dr. Heavenly Kimes and Dr. Jackie Walters, actress and comedienne Cocoa Brown and former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Phaedra Parks.  Also in attendance were Atlanta’s Mayor Elect Keisha Lance Bottoms as well as Birmingham, Alabama’s new Mayor Randall Woodfin.

Tyrese served as both entertainment and celebrity co-chair. He performed a medley of his biggest hits as well as songs from other R&B artists like Jodeci, Mint Condition and Frankie Beverly & Maze. After his set, he and media personality, Frank Ski helped raise additional scholarship dollars.

Yours truly, RayCornelius.com was in the mix and captured some pretty amazing shots of everyone in their black tie and ballroom garb. The UNCF Mayor’s Masked Ball is held annually by the city’s mayor and is a huge fundraiser for students attending historically black colleges and universities. The Mayor’s Masked Ball was created in 1983 by Billye S. Aaron (Hank Aaron’s wife) and Ambassador Andrew Young with the hopes of providing scholarships for underserved youth with dreams of attending college. The event is one of several “Masked Balls” that are presented by UNCF chapters around the country.

Check out some behind-the-scenes photos from Sunday night’s Season 4 premiere of Bravo’s “Married to Medicine.” The pictures were taken during Lisa Nicole Cloud‘s “Celebration of Life” Party that was taped at her beautiful home last spring.  I was personally invited by Lisa’s camp to come out and cover the party and was able to capture these exclusive images of her and the other cast members before things got heated. Dwight Eubanks was also present along with Dr. Rondrick Williamson, “Talking with Tami” (Tami Reed) and a few others.

‘Fast 8’ stars Ludacris & Nathalie Emmanuel featured at ‘CreATL’ [PHOTOS]

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

It’s no secret that Atlanta is a hotbed for TV, film and entertainment. Just this week, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal announced that Georgia-lensed feature film and television productions generated an economic impact of more than $7 billion during fiscal year 2016. Georgia is also number three in the world for film production according to FilmLA.

IMG_1973Last night, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed along Christopher Hicks of the Mayor’s Office of Film and Entertainment, gathered together to talk about that accomplishment and more as part of a new series titled CreATL. The immersive conversation features the industry’s top creatives, tastemakers and thought-leaders in film, entertainment, technology and culture that is created in Atlanta.

The series first featured guests included “Fast 8” stars Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Nathalie Emmanuel, who are currently shooting the newest installment throughout the city. The private event was held at The Gathering Spot in Midtown-Atlanta and was presented by MARTELL. Bridges and Emmanuel opened up to moderator, Simone Gray about their life on set and the many advantages they have to shooting “Fast 8” here in Atlanta. “I get to wear my pajamas and house shoes to work,” said Ludacris to the most packed auditorium.

A number of celebrities were in attendance for the lively discussion including “Rickey Smiley for Real” star Gary With Tha Tea, “L.A. Hair” diva Gocha Hawkins, music executive Brian Michael Cox, celebrity hairstylist and television actor Miss Lawrence, “Saints & Sinners” actress Jasmine Burke, “Married to Medicine” stars Dr. Heavenly Kimes and Dr. Jackie Walters and many more.

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Grammy winning-rapper and actor Tip “T.I.” Harris and wife singer/songwriter Tameka ‘Tiny” Harris recently celebrated the forthcoming addition of a seventh child at Atlanta’s Le Fais Do-Do. The “Royal Affair” baby shower was complete with crowns and tiaras of all sizes along with a palace-shaped cake and thrones for the happy couple.

TI and Tiny Photobooth

“We want to thank you all for joining us for the very last Harris Family baby shower,” T.I. said jokingly to the roomful of well-wishers. “And for those of you who missed the first four, five, however many there were, I promise you this will be the last one and we’re going out with a bang.”

A number of the couple’s friends and family were in attendance including Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker, Rasheeda and Kirk Frost as well as Monica Brown, Keke Wyatt, Toya Carter, Reginae Carter, Phaedra Parks, Shekinah Jo, Dr. Jackie Walters, Gocha Hawkins and Atlanta’s First Lady Sarah Elizabeth Reed.

Written by | Ray Cornelius

Ain’t No Party Like a Braxton Party, Cause a Braxton Party Don’t Stop!

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the 40th Birthday Celebration for singer, songwriter and reality star Trina Braxton. The super hero-themed party was held at exclusive ilounge in the East Atlanta Village.

Dr. Jaki, Traci, Towanda and Toni

All of Trina’s famous sisters attended the private event dressed as their favorite animated character including Toni Braxton as Storm and Tamar Braxton as Poison Ivy. Mrs. Evelyn Braxton wowed party goers as the deliciously evil Cruella Deville while Traci Braxton and Towanda Braxton arrived as sexy super sheroes. Trina made a grand entrance to her smash hit record, “Party or Go Home” wearing an all-black costume A la New Orleans Mardi Gras. She later thanked her family and friends for coming out to support her big night.
