OWN hosts ‘Cherish The Day’ Launch Party [PHOTOS]

All eyes were on the A-T-L Thursday night for OWN’s swanky launch party for its newest dramatic series, Cherish the Day. The highly anticipated two-night premiere begins on February 11.

The invite-only soiree took place at the Stave Room in the Midtown district of the city and was hosted by OWN president and CEO Tina Perry along with the show’s creator and executive producer Ava DuVernay.

Chapter One of the “anthology series” chronicles the stirring relationship of the two star-crossed lovers, with each episode spanning a single day. The narrative will unfold to reveal significant moments in their relationship that compel us to hold true to the ones we love.

Cherish the Day cast members in attendance included the show’s leads—Alano Miller and Xosha Roquemore as well as Kellee Stewart, Michael Beach and Anne-Marie Johnson. Not present but also included in the show are Dorien Wilson, Loren Lott, Bryan Terrell Clark and the queen mum—CICELY TYSON.

Other notables in attendance included the hosts of TV One’s Sister CircleRashan Ali, Syleena Johnson and Trina Braxton plus actresses DeWanda Wise, Jasmine Guy and Terri J. Vaughn. Other famous faces spotted in the crowd were actors Joel Rush, Karon Riley, André Holland, Omar Dorsey, celebrity makeup artist Derrick Rutledge and Exonerated Five member Raymond Santana and his fiancé Delicious.

The evening included a sneak peek of three different scenes along with commentary and a Q&A session featuring the cast and DuVernay. We also listened to some dope sounds from DJ Princess Cut and enjoyed some refreshing cocktails, food and much more.

Bounce TV’s ‘In the Cut’ Season 2 airs TONIGHT at 9 p.m. EST (VIDEO)

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

A new season of Bounce TV’s hugely popular family comedy, “In the Cut” airs TONIGHT beginning at 9 p.m. EST. The series features celebrated TV and film stars Dorien Wilson, John Marshall Jones, Ken Lawson along with the show’s newest edition, Kelita Smith.

“In the Cut” follows Jay (Wilson), a barbershop owner who is recently reunited with his 31-year-old son that he never knew named Kenny (Lawson).  Together, they are learning what it means to be adult men: living, working and learning alongside one another. Close quarters, coupled with wisecracking employees, know-it-all neighbors and complicated love interests make for close shaves and good times. Jones returns as Jay’s BFF Smitty and Smith plays Sheryl, the new co-owner of the beauty salon next door that Jay has a crush on.

I had a chance to chat recently with the actors about the new season and Smith was super excited about joining the cast. For her, it was another opportunity to work with her friend and show creator, Bentley Kyle Evans and a chance to return to comedy.

“When Bentley called and asked if I could do the show a few years ago, I was working on a zombie show and I wasn’t able to do it. So, this time when it came back around, I absolutely said, ‘I would do it.’ I’ve worked with Dorien. I’ve not worked with JJ [John Marshall Jones] before which is awesome. Their chemistry is totally, totally, totally brilliant and I worked with Kenny on ‘The Parkers.’ We are definitely familiar with one another and it gives me a chance to play comedy again.”

When asked what can fans expect this new season, Wilson promised more guest star appearances and deeper character development.

“The funny is definitely there along with some very touching moments that viewers are going to be surprised with. We have incredible guest stars this year because people are really picking up on the show and want to be a part of it. So that’s been a real treat for us as well. The fact that our characters are growing and we’re flushing out some of the relationships even more. You were introduced to our characters the first season, now you’re getting into the meat and the soul of these people. Also, the writers are actually writing not just for our characters but they know what our strengths are as actors individually,” said Wilson.

Vivian Green, Too Short and Kwame attend ‘ATL Live on the Park’ [PHOTOS]

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Shanti Das recently celebrated 25 years in the music industry during the June edition of “ATL Live on the Park.” The event was hosted by Das’ friends and family and included special performances by emerging and seasoned artists Benjamin Brim, The YRS, and Pepsi’s Artist of the Month, Vivian Green. The evening also concluded with surprise performances by hip hop legends Too Short and Kwame and was sponsored by Gentleman Jack, Pepsi, ChooseATL, MAJIC 107.5 and Boom 102.9.

Before the evening started, event host Ed Lover paid a tribute to Muhammad Ali and the victims of the Orlando mass shooting with a moment of silence. Soon after, new artists Benjamin Brim and The YRS opened the show. The YRS was immediately coined as the next big ‘Boy Band’ as their vocals were reminiscent to band group One Direction. This was also the group’s debut performance to a live crowd.

Following their performance, Shanti’s closest friends, clients and music family including Usher, Donell Jones, T.I., Big Boi and Andre 3000 of Outkast, Sway Calloway and more paid homage to Das for her 25 years in the entertainment industry. After the video presentation, event hosts Devyne Stephens, Kawan ‘KP’ Prather, Dee Dee Hibbler, Phillana Williams, DJ Eddie F, Councilmembers Ceasar C. Mitchell and Kwanza Hall presented Das with an award commemorating her success in the industry. The group accredited Das as the driving force behind establishing the hip hop industry in the south.

Immediately following the presentation, the Pepsi Artist of the Month, Vivian Green, set the stage on fire with live renditions of her songs “Fanatic,” “Work” and “Get Right Back To My Baby.” During her performance Green paused to pay tribute to Shanti Das for her assistance in launching her career. “Shanti was the product manager for my first two albums…She was there for me at my first photoshoot. Shanti took care of me and made sure no one took advantage of me… so thank you.” Following the heartfelt thanks, Green performed fan favorites Emotional “Rollercoaster” and “Gotta Go Gotta Leave.”

Notables guest in attendance of last night’s performances included, but were not limited to: Dorien Wilson, Terri J. Vaughn, Kirk Frost, Karyn Greer, Big Gipp, Chaka Zula, Bone Crusher, J. Carter, Nicole Garner, Greg Street, Chrystale Wilson, Lil John Roberts and more!

The season continues with the July edition of ATL Live on the Park on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. The official line up will be released next month. The July edition will include American soul singer and actress on FOX hit television series “Empire,” V. Bozeman.

I recently had the pleasure of talking exclusively to Wilson when BOUNCE and the BronzeLens Film Festival premiered a snippet of the show at the Neighborhood Awards. During our brief discussion, Wilson talked candidly about the series and his character. He also dished about why he would never do reality television and the advice he would give to an aspiring actor.
