Blackfilm.com is reporting that veteran actress, singer and dancer, Suzzanne Douglas has been cast to play gospel singer Cissy Houston in the upcoming Lifetime biopic, I Will Always Love You. The made-for-television movie is being directed by Houston’s Exhale co-star Angela Bassett and is set to debut in 2015.
Best known for her roles in Jason’s Lyric, The Inkwell and The Parent Hood, Douglas will star opposite Yaya DaCosta Alafia as Whitney Houston. Also joining the cast as Houston’s eldest brother, Michael is former All My Children star, Cornelius Smith, Jr.
As previously reported, I Will Always Love You examines Houston’s relationship with her ex-husband Bobby Brown, which started at the height of her musical and film career. It begins with their very public courtship to their lavish wedding to their roller coaster marriage which resulted in divorce in 2007.
Rounding out the all-star cast is Arlen Escarpeta as Brown and Treme actress Yolonda Ross as Whitney’s longtime friend and personal assistant, Robyn Crawford.
Reportedly, production for the film is already underway.
