A VIP reception was held last night in Atlanta for Tyler Perry’s new scripted series premiering on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network. Cast leads from both The Haves and Have Nots and Love Thy Neighbor were on hand at Bar One for a brief Q&A session and photos with Atlanta press.
The Have and Have Not stars Tika Sumpter, Renee Lawless, Crystal Fox and John Schneider as well as Palmer Williams, Patrice Lovely and Kendra C. Johnson from Love Thy Neighbor were the center of attention in the overly crowded restaurant. Each actor recounted their first time meeting Oprah Winfrey as well as what it was like working with Tyler Perry.
The Have and Have Nots is a one-hour drama which follows the complicated dynamic between two Savannah, GA families. One is rich and powerful while the other finds wealth through religion and virtue. Schneider and Lawless play the very affluent Jim and Katheryn Cryer and Fox is their maid, Hanna Young. Sumpter plays Candace, Fox’s estranged daughter and town vixen that is secretly sleeping with Jim Cryer.
Love Thy Neighbor is a half-hour comedy set at the Love Train Diner, a family restaurant that is run by Hattie Mae Love (Patrice Lovely). Johnson plays Lovely’s daughter, Linda while Williams is Uncle Floyd, the ever-present throne in Love’s side.
