Think you have what it takes to “Ease on Down the Road?” Well, NBC may be looking for you…
According to BroadwayWorld.com, the network will be holding open calls for the role of ‘Dorothy’ on Saturday, June 6 at Telsey + Company from 10 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Reportedly, NBC is looking for a female, African-American performer over the age of 18, who “must have an extraordinary voice that can still tell a story, and maturity with a youthful energy.” Actresses interested in auditioning must also come prepared to perform a short section of ‘Home,’ Ease on Down the Road,’ or ‘Be a Lion’ a capella.
The news comes on the heels of the network announcing that “The Wiz’s” original Dorothy, Stephanie Mills, will return to the show in the role of ‘Aunt Em’ and that it’s being choreographed by the one and only, Fatima Robinson.
“The Wiz” will air live on NBC December 3 and will then open on Broadway for the 2016-17 Season. Both productions are being directed by Tony winner, Kenny Leon along with Harvey Fierstein, who is on board to “modernize” the Broadway book. The show is also being executive produced by Cirque du Soleil and will feature all of the original music of Charles Smalls.
Who do you think should play the role of Dorothy?
