Christmas may be five months away but Mary J. Blige is already preparing for the holiday season. The reigning queen of hip-hop soul is releasing a Christmas album in October.
Mary Christmas is the name of the project that will feature Blige’s interpretations of classic holiday tunes. It will be her 11th studio album and her first of seasonal favorites. Ironically, the album will debut just one month prior to her new holiday film, Black Nativity in which Blige plays an angel named, Platinum Fro.
Blige will also work with acclaimed music producer David Foster, who has previously produced albums for Michael Buble, Rod Stewart, Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli.
RC will keep you posted as more of this story develops. In the meantime, here’s a taste of what Mary’s album will sound like. This is a 2010 clip from The Oprah Winfrey Show featuring Blige singing “What Child is This” along with Bocelli.
