Mama would always say, “Success comes from being in the right place, at the right time.” And that could not be truer for AFFRM’s Ava DuVernay.
The Sundance Film Festival winner has been tapped to direct the upcoming drama, Selma. The film was previous associated with The Butler’s Lee Daniels. Now, DuVernay is taking over his director duties and was brought on board by none other than Brad Pitt and his studio Plan B.
According to Deadline, rising actor David Oyelwo will continue his role as Martin Luther King, Jr. in the film. Remember he was one of DuVernay’s stars in her 2012 indie hit, Middle of Nowhere along with Emayatzy Corinealdi and Omari Hardwick.
The other good news for DuVernay is that she is also set to direct an upcoming episode of ABC’s Scandal, starring Kerry Washington. DuVernay tweeted the information yesterday stating that she will direct episode 8 of season three.
Way to Ava! RC is looking forward to bigger and better things for you the rest of 2013!
