“It’s Not Right but It’s Okay!“
E! Online is reporting that R&B chanteuse Deborah Cox will be providing vocals for the upcoming Whitney Houston biopic. Reportedly “music rights and clearances are still being worked out” and Cox has been given the arduous task of covering Houston’s hit records. The film’s star Yaya DaCosta will simply lip-synch to Deborah’s covers instead of Houston’s original recordings.
As previously mentioned, I Will Always Love You follows Houston and Brown’s relationship which began at the height of her musical and film career. It will examine their very public courtship, their lavish wedding and their roller coaster marriage which resulted in divorce in 2007. Sadly, Houston passed away in 2012.
Starring alongside DaCosta is Arlen Escarpeta as Bobby Brown; Treme actress Yolonda Ross as Houston’s long time personal assistant and rumored lesbian lover, Robyn Crawford; stage actress Suzzanne Douglas as Cissy Houston and soap star Cornelius Smith Jr. as Houston’s eldest brother, Michael.
The film is being presented by Lifetime and is directed by Houston’s Exhale co-star Angela Bassett. Shooting is currently underway in Los Angeles and is scheduled to debut in 2015.
What are your thoughts about the film using Deborah’s voice over Whitney’s?
