Congratulations are in order for Get On Up star Chadwick Boseman. The 37-year-old actor has inked a lucrative five-film deal with Disney/Marvel to play Black Panther. The news was announced on Tuesday during a press conference featuring Boseman alongside Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans.
According to Deadline, Boseman will be the first African-American superhero to lead a stand-alone Marvel film beginning in 2017 with Black Panther. His deal however, begins in 2016 with Captain America: Civil War.
It’s not clear if Marvel will hire an African-American director for the film. Django Unchained producer, Reginald Hudlin’s name has been tossed around since he actually penned the Black Panther comics in the 2000’s. Marvel’s Kevin Feige has replied: “We’re looking for the best directors possible,” adding that, “Reggie I’ve known for many years and is a great guy – I think I’m meeting him again shortly.”
Stay tuned…
