Insecure star and pop culture phenom Issa Rae is expanding her relationship with HBO by starring in and producing a new limited series for them titled The Dolls.

According to S&A, The Dolls will recount the aftermath of the Christmas Eve riots that took place within two small Arkansas towns in 1983 over the Cabbage Patch Kids Doll. The film will also “examine class, race, privilege and what it takes to be a good mother.”  Joining Rae on this project is iconic actress Laura Dern.

Cabbage Patch Kids were all the craze during the early 1980s and it seems as if every little girl in the country wanted one. Like many of today’s popular toys, the dolls were a “must have” item during the holiday season and parents (mothers especially) would do just about anything to get their hands on one.

Check out a 2015 Black Friday video below that vent viral showing a Caucasian mother trying to steal a toy from an African American child and then accuses his mother of being “aggressive” as she tries to take the toy back from her. #ReallyLady
