The lives of mathematicians Dorothy Vaughn, Mary Jackson and Katherine Johnson were so beautifully displayed in the 2016 hit film Hidden Figures that it may just become the subject of a new TV series.
According to S&A, the executive producers of the film—Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping—are reportedly in the “early stages of development” on a scripted drama with National Geographic (Nat Geo).
Hidden Figures starred actresses Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae as three women who broke racial boundaries as human computers at NASA. Each one served as the brains behind America’s race against Russia to put a man in space and quickly rose the ranks of the national space program. The film was very well received and earned Spencer an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Nat Geo has found success in the scripted series arena with the show Genius, which earned 10 Emmy nominations.
RC will keep you posted as this project continues to develop.
