Last night was literally a dream!
I had the distinct honor and pleasure of attending the New York City premiere of Tyler Perry‘s new romantic thriller Acrimony. I was the “plus one” of my friend and blogger boo Xaviera Bryant of Ice Cream Conversations, who was invited to the screening by Lionsgate.
Taraji P. Henson
The event took place at the Manhattan’s School of Visual Arts Theatre and began with a dazzling red carpet featuring most of the film’s stars: Taraji P. Henson, Lyriq Bent, Crystle Stewart, Ajiona Alexus, Antonio Madison, Jay Hunter, Nelson Estevez, Kendrick Cross, Racquel Bianca John, Jazmyn Simon and Ptosha Storey.
Tyler Perry
Of course, the man of the hour—Tyler Perry—was in attendance along with Tyler Perry Studios executive, playwright and producer Mark Swinton, GMA’s Robin Roberts, media maven Gayle King, music mogul Kevin Liles, veteran actor Leon, reality starlet Laura Govan, The Haves and the Have Nots star Angela Robinson, celebrity stylists Tameka Raymond and Jason Bolden and CNN‘s Don Lemon.
Taraji P. Henson as Melinda in ACRIMONY
Acrimony is one of Perry’s best film’s to date. It features Henson as Melinda, a faithful wife who is tired of standing by her devious husband, Robert (Bent) and is enraged when it becomes clear she has been betrayed.
This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat and has a few twists and turns that you don’t expect. Only Perry could envision a story and plot like this and Henson truly delivers a performance that you won’t soon forget! I also love how the music of jazz icon Nina Simone is weaved throughout the story. It adds a nice touch that Simone fans will enjoy.
Ray Cornelius + Crystle Stewart attending the afterparty
Following the screening was the private afterparty at NYC’s famed “Boom Boom Room” overlooking Manhattan. (When I tell you that view is spectacular). I was able to get a few selfies with some of the film’s stars as well as a few other special invited guests including Miss USA 2017 Kara McCullough, Kindred the Family Soul and Broadway actor Bryan Terrell Clark.
