Earlier this year, we reported that Tim Story was teaming up with New Line Cinema and “Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris for a remake of “Shaft” and gave you our thoughts on who the star should be. Well, it looks as if they have found the man for the job.
According to DEADLINE, “Survivor’s Remorse” star Jessie T. Usher will take on the coveted role in “Son of Shaft.” The twenty-something-year-old actor will play an FBI agent and cyber expert who finds himself partnering with his estranged father, Shaft, for an uneasy collision of old school meets new school. Apparently Richard Roundtree will be reprising his role and Samuel L. Jackson is negotiating a deal to reprise his role as Shaft’s nephew. Production for “Son of Shaft” will begin this fall.
In addition to starring in “Survivor’s Remorse,” Usher has appeared in “Almost Christmas,” “Independence Day: Resurgence” and “Level Up.”
