VH1 is resurrecting its “Hip Hop Honors” this summer with an all-star salute to the first ladies of rap on July 11 at 9pm EST. According to the show’s press release, the special will pay homage to the female pioneers, trailblazers and trend-setters who lead a movement and infiltrated the ranks of the male-dominated genre to make their voices heard and still do today.
Since its inception in 2004, “VH1’s Hip Hop Honors” has recognized the luminaries who broke new ground and propelled the genre into the cultural phenomenon it has become. From Hip Hop’s pioneers like Public Enemy and Tupac Shakur to Def Jam Records and Russell Simmons, VH1 has honored Hip Hop from its origins through the numerous phases of its musical evolution.
The show is being produced by Flavor Unit with Shakim Compere and Queen Latifah as Executive Producers along with Mona Scott-Young‘s Monami Productions and blacjac Entertainment Group with Jac Benson II as an Executive Producer.
Stay tuned…
