The first trailer for Nate Parker‘s new epic film “The Birth of a Nation” has arrived and we are so excited! The almost 2-minute trailer opens with the haunting sounds of Nina Simone singing the classic tune, “Strange Fruit.”
Set against the antebellum South, “The Birth of a Nation” follows Nat Turner, a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner, accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities – against himself and his fellow slaves – Nat orchestrates an uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.
“The Birth of a Nation” stars Gabrielle Union, Colman Domingo, Aunjanue Ellis, Aja Naomi King, Roger Guenveur Smith, Armie Hammer, Jackie Earl Haley, Jeryl Prescott and Nate Parker as Nat Turner.
