While the STARZ series “Flesh and Bone” may not be returning for a second season, I have a sneaking suspicion that we haven’t seen the last of its überly talented star Karell “Kar” Williams. The scene stealing dancer, who portrayed the ruthlessly ambitious “Trey” on the show, is on a mission to explore all aspects of his God-given abilities and hopes to be recognized for more than just his slick moves.
“I have traveled the world and got a chance to work with some of the elite in my field—Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dance Theatre of Harlem and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal. However, when I moved back to America a few years ago, I realized there was a new paradigm here and artists now have to use all of their talents. So I discovered acting,” said Williams in a recent interview.
The Juilliard School graduate is also working on a singing career with the hopes of combining all three of his talents and become a triple threat performer. It’s a dream he’s had ever since he was a child growing up in the mean streets of Miami, Florida.
“I remember when I was a little kid and I told myself that I wanted an occupation where I could travel the world and do something I loved. Years later I discovered dance and I realized then that it would be my driving force. I was like, ‘You betta get behind this wheel and really push the gas!'”
Check out the rest of my Q&A with him below and get to know this rising superstar!
1. You’ve traveled the globe but what’s your favorite city?
“I spent a month in Paris but I loved Montreal! I was based there. Tel Aviv was surprisingly and amazingly fun. Barcelona was beautiful too. Actually, it’s kinda hard for me to pick a favorite city because I like so many for so many different reasons.”
2. What was the last book you read?
“The last book I read was Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose, which was amazing and kind of a self-help book. Wait! Actually, it wasn’t the last book I read but it’s the one that pops up in my mind and that was very profound to me.”
3. What’s your favorite TV show?
“Oh wow! I haven’t had a television in three years. (LOL) When I moved back to America, I decided not to get one. But I do catch shows online and the last two I watched were Gotham and How To Get Away with Murder.”
4. What’s your favorite color?
“I’ve always liked blue but for some reason I always find myself looking better in black and then red…”
5. Who’s your favorite fashion designer?
