Despite having to cancel her award-winning daytime talk show, Queen Latifah is actually more optimistic about her future now than ever before. The star of the upcoming HBO film about blues legend, Bessie Smith, talks candidly to UPTOWN Magazine about finally seeing her passion project come to fruition after 22 years in the making. She also gives her two cents on gay rights and same-sex marriage and why doing the nude scene in “Bessie” was about respecting the character.
“I don’t find [this nude scene] any more uncomfortable than kissing a girl in Set It Off and sticking to the script. You have to take your mind off of yourself and honor that character. Respect Cleo, respect Bessie.” [READ MORE]
