We are going “gaga” over Gugu Mbatha Raw’s ELLE Magazine cover. The Belle star is serving up all kinds of sexiness for the “Women in Hollywood” issue that hits newsstands tomorrow.
The South African beauty is one of many actresses who will be recognized by the magazine at a lavish ceremony today for their extraordinary contributions to cinema. Other honorees include Jessica Lang, Elizabeth Banks, Jennifer Gardner, Tina Fey and Zoe Saldana, whose cover we posted last week.
Raw is currently promoting her new film, Beyond the Lights where she plays a trouble pop star named Noni who is drowning under the pressures of fame until she meets a handsome young cop and politician who comes to her rescue. Here is what she told ELLE about her role:
“One of the things that drew me to the project was the relationship between mother and daughter— that ‘mom-ager’ dynamic—because I grew up with a single mom, though my dad has definitely been in my life a lot. But my mom couldn’t be more different from Minnie Driver’s character. I was the pushy child, the one who wanted to be doing ballet and jazz and tap and everything.”
The film was written and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood of Love and Basketball fame and also stars Nate Parker, Mini Driver and Danny Glover.
RC had a chance to see a sneak preview of the film last week and fans are in for a real treat. Raw delivers and the chemistry between her and Parker is undeniable. Check out the full ELLE cover below along with a preview of the film:
