R&B music veteran Anita Baker is claiming that she was unaware of the law suit and arrest warrant against her and says she found out while watching television. According to THR, the 56-year-old Grammy winning vocalist tweeted the following statement: “WHATTT??!!… sittin’ in the kitchen watching this on TV. BIG time crazy. Atty on his way to TV Station. Devil sho is busy.”
Reportedly, Baker is being sued by Ray Smith Painting and Decorating, a Detroit based company that is claiming that she failed to pay the $15,000 bill for renovations work done to her Detroit-area home. When Baker failed to appear in court, a judge issued a warrant for her arrest.
However, all of this seems to be a ‘mystery’ to Baker, whose lawyers claim this is all a big mix up and the singer, has paid her debt to the company. “She had paid them almost $60,000, and the contract was supposed to be far less than that, and at the end, ended up with a job that was very shoddy. Very poor workmanship. She has pictures,” said Jamal Hamood.
Baker’s attorney went on to further say that he was planning to file a motion to cancel the warrant, claiming that she was never served with papers and didn’t know that she was being sued.
Baker has since thanked her fans for their support with another tweet: “THANK YOU, for ALL the LOVE & LIGHT u’ve sent my way. All is well 🙂 Light is Dim… But SHINING ANYway! Grateful 4 every lesson, ab.”
