Deadline is reporting that Lifetime has been given the green light to produce a television version of the Tony-nominated Broadway revival, A Trip to Bountiful.

The film will star two of the show’s original cast members Cicely Tyson and Vanessa Williams.  Crazy, Sexy, Cool  actress Keke Palmer and former Ironside  actor Blair Underwood have also been added to the cast. I am assuming Palmer and Underwood will take on the roles played by Cuba Gooding Jr. and Condola Rashad, who left the Broadway show in July to star in Romeo & Juliet  with Orlando Bloom.

A Trip to Bountiful  tells the story of a woman’s quest to reconnect with her past in order to ensure her family’s future. The film is set during the final years of the Jim Crow South; it is the best-known work by Oscar-, Pulitzer- and Emmy-winning author Horton Foote.

Tyson made headlines this spring when she returned to Broadway after a 30-year absence, winning her first Tony Award for her role as the show’s matriarch Carrie Watts.

A Trip to Bountiful  is currently in production and will air sometime in 2014.
