The New York-based Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, beloved as one of the world’s most popular dance companies, will kick off its North American tour in our nation’s capitol on February 4-9 at the JFK Center for the Performing Arts.
The 23-city tour marks the 25th season since the passing of legendary founder Alvin Ailey. Led by Artistic Director Robert Battle, Ailey’s extraordinary dancers will grace each stage with an exciting collection of premieres and new productions from a wide range of renowned choreographers.
Building upon last season’s success, the highly anticipated engagement will newly reveal the power, passion and astonishing beauty of Ailey’s 30 renowned dancers. Advancing a cherished 55-year legacy, Battle’s vision is taking the Company to new artistic heights and has been widely applauded by audiences and critics.
“Ailey strives to find new ways to be a beacon of artistic excellence and light,” said Robert Battle. “My amazing dancers surpass boundaries, embodying the vision of great choreographers to create something extraordinary. I am excited to share this season’s cornucopia of treasures with audiences everywhere, as we continue to build upon Ailey’s rich history of inspiring all through dance.”
The tour will make stops in Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Seattle, St. Louis, Houston and Las Vegas.
