Deadline is reporting longtime contributor Roland Martin confirmed via his Twitter account today, that April 6 will be his last day at CNN.
“Last day at @cnn is April 6,” Martin tweeted Tuesday morning. The reason why? “New boss wants his own peeps.”
The new boss to whom he referred is Jeff Zucker, who was brought in last year to make over the struggling network.
Although Martin has been at CNN since 2007, his exit doesn’t come as a great surprise. He was suspended last year for what CNN called “regrettable and offensive” tweets that were seen as homophobic by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. The political contributor has been seen less and less on the network since last year’s Presidential election.
A one-time radio host, Martin still hosts Washington Watch, a show seen online and on the TV One network.
