Basketball to Broadway? Yes, the wonderful story of two competitors becoming best friends will come to life on stage in the Broadway play Magic/Bird! Magic Johnson and Larry Bird co-produce the play and gave firsthand knowledge of the nature of their rivalry as well as their friendship that developed between the of them.
This morning on GMA, Magic Johnson sat with Robin Roberts and shared how Georgia Bird (Larry’s mother) invited him to lunch in 1985 during a break from filming a Converse commercial and was the catalyst to the rivals becoming the best of friends.
From 1979, when both players entered the league, until 1991, the Celtics, Lakers, or both appeared in the finals a remarkable 11 times! Although Magic and Larry retired from basketball years ago, their legacy is still a topic of conversations.
