Check out the first trailer for the highly anticipated upcoming documentary film “MAYNARD.” It chronicles the life and legacy of Atlanta’s first African American Mayor—Maynard H. Jackson.
According to the press release, “MAYNARD” presents an intimate view of Jackson from those who knew him best. The film includes video archival footage and photographs, and rare interviews with family and co-workers who helped sustain the Maynard movement during his administration at Atlanta City Hall and beyond.
“Maynard Jackson had a voice that could melt the meanness out of the hardest heart and a gift of gab that could talk an owl out a tree,” said President Bill Clinton during his eulogy of Maynard Jackson, who passed away in 2003.
“MAYNARD” also features appearances by Reverend Jesse Jackson, former Atlanta Mayors—Shirley Franklin, Bill Campbell, Sam Massell and Ambassador Andrew Young—Vernon Jordan, Reverend Al Sharpton and Mayor Kasim Reed.
The film is directed by award-winning filmmaker Samuel Pollard and is produced by Jason Orr, Winsome Sinclair, Donald Jarmond, Kozmo Miller, Autumn Bailey and Dolly Turner. It is executive produced by Maynard H. Jackson III, Wendy Eley Jackson, Brook Jackson Edmond, Elizabeth Jackson Hodges and Howie C. Hodges.
