Check out the official trailer + poster for HBO’s upcoming original film, “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,” starring Oprah Winfrey. It airs on Saturday April 22.
As previously mentioned, Henrietta Lacks was an African-American woman who died of cervical cancer in 1951. Without her consent, pieces of the tumor that killed her were removed and used for medical exploration and to build a billion-dollar research industry. The film is based on Rebecca Skloot‘s nonfiction book of the same name and also features Rose Byrne, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Courtney B. Vance, Leslie Uggams, Rocky Carroll and Reg E. Cathey.
Lacks’ sons—David Lacks, Jr. and Zakariyya Rahman, and her granddaughter Jeri Lacks served as consultants to the film alongside Winfrey, who is also the executive producer.
