Q & A with ‘LOVE THAT GIRL’ star Bresha Webb

Written by | Ray Cornelius

Love That Girl  is back for another season on TV One and this time all eyes will be on “Imunique,” the outrageous, over-the-top, round-da-way character played by actress Bresha Webb.

The show, which was originally centered on Tatyana Ali’s character Tyana, has now shifted its attention to Webb and veteran actor, Phil Morris, who plays real estate executive Delroy Jones. As previously reported, Ali didn’t return to the show after the last season due to a contractual agreement with BET’s Second Generation Wayans. So, Webb is now leading the series along with Reagan Gomez, who is playing Delroy Jones’ niece Jasmine Russell.

“This is the first comedic role that I’ve done in a sitcom format. Most of my past experiences have been dramatic. So everything that I’ve done has prepared me for this moment. I feel very blessed that I was able to show up in the moment,” said Webb, who is from Baltimore.  “I’m theatrically trained so I am able to use all of my gifts and talents this season. There is singing and some dramatic scenes. We are taking viewers on a journey and I am very proud of the work I have done.”

Check out the rest of my conversation with Webb and learn more about the hilariously funny woman behind, Imunique:

New York or L.A.?

Los Angeles of course! It matches my outfit. It’s October right now and I have on flip flops but I’m ok with that. They say it never rains in Southern California but that’s a lie. It just doesn’t rain as often as it does in New York.

Love and Hip-Hop or Iyanla Fix My Life?

Oh, Iyanla Fix My Life!  OMG!  If you go to my Instagram, you will see that I love Iyanla! I actually make fun of her a lot but I love her. I love when she gives her guests a nice little bosom cry and she palms their head right in her chest. “Come on beloved, you need to go in the bosom!” And she rocks them from side to side and cries. (LOL) That is my favorite part.

Idris Elba or Kendrick Lamar?

Oh, WOW! This is so hard because I’ve met both of them but I had a better experience with Kendrick Lamar. I interviewed Kendrick for the BET Awards and he showed me so much love. I’m just gonna have to go with Kendrick because I love his lyrics, his energy and what he’s putting out there in the world of hip-hop. I find it so incredibly sexy. (LOL) Idris Elba is cool but Kendrick, yeees!

 Kendrick Lamar

What’s the last book you read?

I was reading The 50th Law  by 50 Cent. There’s The 48 Laws of Power  and then there is 50 Cents’ version of it. So I read that during my vacation in Hawaii. So that was cool!

Who are your fashion icons?

I have a love-hate relationship right now with Rihanna. She gives me life sometimes but I adore Kerry Washington. I meant Kari. I don’t call her Kerry Washington, she is Kari to me. I love her style. Sometimes I try to get a little ratchet on the red carpet but my stylist and best friend, Victor, always brings me back by saying, “What would Kerry do? You know she would class it up Bresha!”  So, that’s the fashion standard we live by. (LOL)

You’re also a singer, so who are you currently listening to?

I’m listening to 2 Chainz and this new singer named Emily King. I am also listening to J. Cole, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar. I love Robert Glasper. I love Gregory Porter. I love Amy Winehouse and Frank Sinatra. I am also a big Brandy head and I absolutely love Beyonce. Bey and I are friends in my head and I’m that  girl that knows all of her moves from “Singles Ladies,” “Get Me Bodied” and the Superbowl Halftime show.

Favorite Guilty Pleasure?

My guilty pleasure? Well, I had to stop watching Love and Hip Hop  because I was like, “where is the real  in this reality show?” So now I’m addicted to David Tutera’s My Fair Wedding. No, I’m not getting married. I don’t have a fiancé or nothing like that. I just love pretty dresses. Watching women cry over pretty dresses and get caddy with each other over pretty dresses is funny to me. I love it. Sometimes I watch The Kardashians  just to judge. (LOL)

Catch Bresha Webb as “Imunique” in Love That Girl airing TONIGHT at 9:30 p.m. on TV One.
