Versatile actor Djimon Hounsou (pictured above) is getting ready to cast out devils in a upcoming horror/thriller entitled The Vatican Tapes. According to Indie Wire, Hounsou will play a Vatican official called in to exorcise the demon. The film will begin shooting in July and also stars Michael Pena, Dougray Scott, Kathleen Robertson, Peter Anderson, Olivia Dudley, John Patrick Amedori and Alex Sparrow.
Former model turned actress Garcelle Beauvais is set to star in the coming-of-age drama, Loose, produced by Meagan Good and Datari Turner. According to The Wrap, Beauvais will play single and not-so-good-mother to a young lady named Grace, who is trying to find her purpose in life. The role is described as an alcoholic, who repeatedly puts herself in abusive relationships, making them a priority over her own daughter. The indie film is also being produced by Dan Garcia.
American Idol alum Justin Guarini will play Paris in a new Broadway adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. Indie Wire is reported that Guarini will try to win the affections of Condola Rashad, who is set to play Juliet alongside Orlando Bloom as Romeo. The production will have an interracial twist with the Capulets as a black family and the Montagues as a white family. The show will also be set in modern times and is being directed by David Leveaux.
Last fall we reported that Golden Globe-winning actor Don Cheadle was in line to play legendary jazz trumpeter Miles Davis in a new biopic entitled Kill the Trumpet Player. However, Cheadle tweeted this week that he was “looking for young, black, talented trumpet players known and unknown” for the film which is said to be directed by Antoine Fuqua. While it’s not clear what role these trumpet players will have in the film, we do know that it will take some liberties with Davis’ story and will be more of a gangster movie versus a standard biopic. Thank you Indie Wire.
RC will keep you posted on this and of the other films as more information becomes available.
