Indie Wire is reporting that Moozlum director Qasim Basir has officially began prepping for his next project, Destined. The film is slated to start production in December in Atlanta and stars Omar Epps, Mekhi Phifer, Keri Hilson and Emayatzy Corinealdi.
Destined tells the story of Rasheed, a 13-year-old whose life splits off into two possible outcomes: in one, he becomes an up-and-coming architect being used by cynical real estate developers to gentrify and destroy his old neighborhood, and in the other he becomes a powerful drug lord who rules his surroundings but may regret what he’s built.

Destined is being produced by Confluential Films, a new production company headed by Basir, Tommy Oliver and actor Hill Harper. Oliver, who is also a noted filmmaker, will make his directorial debut with 1982, a project RC reported about back in July and stars Harper, Ruby Dee, Elise Neal, La La Anthony and Bokeem Woodbine.
Look for 1982 and Destined to debut in 2013.
