Check out my exclusive interview with Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Angie Stone.

I caught up with the R&B Diva recently as part of my Black Music Month Spotlight during my arts and entertainment show—UPFRONT Inside Atlanta’s Entertainment Industry.

Her iconic 2001 song “Brotha” will be celebrating its 20th anniversary next year (August 28, 2021) and Stone was super excited to chat about its longevity and how it has served as an empowerment anthem for the current #BlackLivesMatterMovement.

“Here it is on the 20th year anniversary that it’s still so relevant…that it’s brand new. It’s one of those songs that will always speak our truth as long as we are shedding royal blood on American soil,” said Stone who has been quarantining in her Atlanta home.

She also talked about remaking the “Brotha” video in 2015 and being one of very few musical artists to use Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” microphone and his historic Ebenezer Baptist Church as part of her backdrop.

In addition, Stone also talked about the recent death of her friend and R&B music icon Betty Wright and her new bible study program on Instagram titled The Power Hour.
