TV and film actress Paula Patton is going bananas (pun intended) over a new project focusing on the fabulous life of the great Josephine Baker.
According to S&A, Patton has optioned film and TV rights to Sherry Jones‘ novel Josephine Baker’s Last Dance and is currently seeking a writer for the script.
The book chronicles her rise to superstardom in Paris during the 1920s to her World War II efforts in the 1940s as well as her support of the Civil Rights Movement during the turbulent 1960s. Baker is also considered to be the “first black female entertainer” to reach international superstar status and even influenced the careers of Diana Ross and Beyoncé.
“Josephine Baker was a magnificent & fearless woman who not only created incredible art but had an enormous heart and was willing to sacrifice her own well being for the benefit of others! She is an inspiration! Today and always we celebrate you…Queen Baker,” said Patton on her Instagram.
This TV or film project would be the second one on the iconic star. Greenleaf‘s Lynn Whitfield starred as Baker in the award-winning HBO original movie, The Josephine Baker Story in 1991.
RC will keep you posted as this continues to develop.
