Congratulations goes out to Grammy-nominated singer Halle Bailey of Chloe x Halle fame. The young performer has scored the role of a lifetime as ‘Ariel’ in Disney’s live-action version of the classic The Little Mermaid.

According to S&A, Bailey will join stars Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay and Melissa McCarthy, who will portray the sea witch ‘Ursula.’ The film is being directed by Rob Marshall and produced by John DeLuca, Marc Platt and Lin-Manuel Miranda. It will debut sometime in 2020.

“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance–plus a glorious singing voice–all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” said Marshall in a statement.

The Little Mermaid follows the story of Ariel, a mermaid princess who dreams of becoming human after she falls in love with a human prince. The 1989 film version includes the iconic tunes “Kiss the Girl” and “Under The Sea” performed by veteran actor Samuel E. Wright.

Bailey is currently starring in Freeform’s grown-ish.
