If you were watching Queen Sugar like I was last night, you may have noticed during the commercial break the new trailer for OWN’s dramatic series David Makes Man. It premieres on Wednesday August 14 at 10 p.m. and will be presented by Lexus with limited commercial interruptions.

The project is the very first TV series from Academy Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney of Moonlight and Choir Boy fame. The story centers around a 14-year-old prodigy from the projects who is haunted by the death of his closest friend and relied on by his hardworking mother to find a way out of poverty. He must choose between the streets that raised him or the higher education that may offer him a way out.

David Makes Man stars Akili McDowell, Phylicia Rashad, Alana Arenas, Isaiah Johnson, Travis Coles, Nathaniel Logan McIntyre, Cayden K. Williams, Ade Chike Torbert and Jordan Bolger.

The series also features appearances by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Elvis Nolasco, Gillian Williams, Juanita Jennings, Liza Colón-Zayas, Lindsey Blackwell, Lela Rochon and Nick Creegan.

The show is executive produced by Michael B. Jordan and Oprah Winfrey along with Mike Kelley and Melissa Joy. Dee Harris-Lawrence serves as the series showrunner.
