ESSENCE Black Women in Film to honor Jenifer Lewis, Kiki Layne, Regina Hall and Amandla Stenberg (VIDEO)

Congratulations goes out to actresses Jenifer Lewis (Black-ish), Regina Hall (Little) Amandla Stenberg (The Hate You Give) and newcomer KiKi Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk). All four of them will be honored during this year’s ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood. The lavish event takes place on Thursday, February 21 and the theme is “The Power of Our Presence: Art & Activism.”

“We are proud to salute the marvelous work and stunning achievements of our 2019 Black Women in Hollywood awardees, who as a collective presence are challenging perceptions and impacting social change,” says MoAna Luu, Chief Creative and Content Officer for ESSENCE. “Through their craft and their commitment to causes, Amandla, Kiki, Jenifer and Regina represent the dynamic intersection of art and activism that is influencing how we shape our own destiny.”

Held each year just ahead of the Academy Awards, the ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood event has become one of the most anticipated Oscar-weekend happenings that serves as an uplifting gathering designed to highlight the phenomenal work of dynamic Black women in entertainment. The intimate affair sees some of Hollywood’s biggest names align to celebrate these women, who continue to elevate the culture through their art form.
