A brand new season of TV One’s UNSUNG begins this Sunday, May 20 at 9 p.m. with a profile on 80s R&B music group Mtume. Best known for their massive hit “Juicy,” the group would go on to release other classics such as “You, He and Me” and “Breathless.” Hip-hop icon Notorious B.I.G. would later sample “Juicy” in his hit single of the same name and introduce them to a new generation of fans.
Other artists profiled this season include R&B divas – Regina Belle, Michel’le, Cheryl Pepsi Riley and girl group 702. Hip-hop stars Special Ed and Digable Planets will also be featured along with blues icon B.B. King and smooth R&B crooner Will Downing.
UNSUNG celebrates the lives and careers of artists or groups who have overcome great odds in their journey to stardom, yet their stories have yet to be fully explored. Through first-hand accounts, interviews with family and friends, and archival footage, each episode weaves a tale of the highs and lows of a life in the limelight. The show is narrated by actor Gary Anthony Williams and is executive produced by Arthur Smith and Frank Sinton of A. Smith & Co. Productions.
