BET has canceled its dramatic HBCU series, The Quad after just two seasons. The news comes on the heels of last week’s season finale and was cut due to low ratings.
“Unfortunately the second season’s rating were never as high as the first season’s. We are so proud of the show–The stories we told, the performances in front of the camera, the hard work behind the scenes, and the commitment of our fans,” said co-show creator and executive producer—Felicia Henderson—in a statement on social media.
The one-hour series starred Tony Award-winning actress Anika Noni Rose as the ambitious yet troubled Dr. Eva Fletcher, the newly-elected President of the fictional Georgia A&M University. She was charged with saving the prestigious HBCU from bankruptcy and her twenty-year marriage from crumbling while managing a tumultuous relationship with her rebellious only daughter.
The Quad also featured the very talented Jasmine Guy, Peyton Alex Smith, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Sean Blakemore and my ATL homies Larry Rhem, Demetria McKinney and E. Roger Mitchell. This past season also featured a number of special guest appearances from Sheryl Lee Ralph, Ronreaco Lee, Big Boi and Roland Martin. The show was shot on the campuses of Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University.
