Laz Alonso, Lil Rel Howery, Lance Gross and more join BET’s ‘The Bobby Brown Story’

BET has added more star power to The Bobby Brown Story.

According to BlackFilm, Laz Alonso, Lil Rel Howery, Lance Gross, Mekhi Phifer, Alyssa Goss and veteran actor T.K. Carter have joined the cast.

As previously reported, the film is a two night, two-hour event that will chronicle Brown’s beginnings as a founding member of New Edition and his meteoric rise to superstardom as a solo artist in the late 80s and early 90s. Abdul Williams will serve as the project’s writer while  Jesse Collins will executive produce.

New Edition Story actor Woody McClaine will reprise his role as Bobby Brown along with actress Sandi McCree, who will also reprise her role as Bobby’s mother Carole Brown.

Phifer will star as Bobby’s brother Tommy Brown. Howery will portray Brian Irvin, Bobby’s Manager. Carter will star as Herbert “Pops” Brown, Bobby’s father. Alonso will portray Louil Silas Jr, an MCA producer-executive who helped Bobby become a solo artist. Goss will play Bobby’s current wife Alicia Etheridge and Gross will play Steven Sealy, a childhood friend of Bobby’s who is killed in a gunfight after hanging with him at a hometown bar.

Look for The Bobby Brown Story to premiere in September.
