Playbill is reporting that the true story of Little Rock Nine is coming to an Off-Broadway theatre this spring titled Little Rock. The show will play at NYC’s Sheen Center for Thought and Culture beginning in May.
“Little Rock bears witness to the triumphant crusade and quest of The Little Rock Nine and the citizens who helped move our nation towards becoming a more perfect union,” says playwright and director Maharaj. “Out of their bravery and the tenacity, my play shines a light on the optimistic portrait of a town and a people that were challenged and changed by one of our country’s most tumultuous events.”
The cast for Little Rock has yet to be announced. However, a staged reading for the show is taking place this week (February 22) at The Sheen Center for Thought and Culture featuring Maharaj and “Little Rock” member Carlotta Walls LaNier.
Performances for Little Rock will begin May 30 ahead of a June 14 opening night.
