Kandi Burruss is officially a Broadway star! The Grammy winning singer-songwriter, actress and Real Housewife of Atlanta made her debut on the “Great White Way” this past Monday night (January 15) in “CHICAGO.” The multi-talented entertainer is starring as Matron “Mama” Morton for an exclusive 8-week engagement.
“This was an amazing night & im so glad that my better half was with me for this moment! @todd167 has been helping me go over my lines every night for the past week to prepare for this night. I love you bae! Come catch me in @chicagomusical from now until March 11th,” said Burruss on Instagram.
As previously reported,“CHICAGO” is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the “celebrity criminal.” The musical currently stars Tony nominee Charlotte d’Amboise as Roxie Hart, Amra Faye-Wright as Velma Kelly, Tom Hewitt as Billy Flynn and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
If you recall, Burruss’ character was made famous by Queen Latifah in the film version. Other stars to portray “Mama” in the musical include talk show diva Wendy Williams, veteran TV and stage actress Roz Ryan (“Amen”) and RHOA star NeNe Leakes.
